DNS-320L with 1.03b4 firmware; observing performance during a local backup (copying files over a fairly slow WLAN between two buildings).
Started with fan control at the default "Auto (stop/low/high)"; I noticed that the fan doesn't start spinning until the temperature reported on the mainboard gets above approx. 45 deg.C. But I noticed from the "system status" pages in the web UI that the two hard drives (Seagate Barracuda Green ST2000DL003) report temperatures a few degrees higher - arounf 49-50 deg. C (IMO starting to get a little high).
For now I have changed the fan mode to "Auto (low/high)" so the fan is always running; the unit now seems "over cooled" in that mainboard temperature is down to around 28 deg. C and hard drive temperatures down to 35 deg. C while they are working and down to near room temperature when they are in power-save mode.
But shoild the fan control code take notice of hard drive temperatures as well as the mainboard? The local backup wasn't putting that great a load on the CPU so the mainboard wasn't getting hot, but the hard drives were spinning continuously and IMO in need of a little ventilation...
