I can use the cam when I am using the cams wifi signal, but when I leave and get on my home signal within a few hours the signal is lost and I cannot use the cam.  This is important because it monitors my 90 year old father 400 miles away.  Where do we start?

Have you registered your DCS-5020L with a mydlink account?  If so, have you ever successfully logged into your mydlink account and viewed your DCS-5020L?  When you log into your mydlink.com account is there a red "x" for the DCS-5020L?

Lets begin by getting some ISP and  router info from you please...
What Mfr and model router do you have?

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
• Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
• What region are you located?

Is the cam wired or wirelessly connected to the main host router?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

• What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
• What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
• What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
• Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
• For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.

• Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
• Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
• Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming.
• Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature.
• Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

Wireless Configurations

• Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers.
• What wireless modes are you using?
• 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
• 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
• Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
• Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
• What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
• Any other wireless devices connected?
• Any cordless house phones?
• Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

Router Placement

What is the distance between the main host router and cam? Same room with main host router or different room?

We understand that there is distance here between you and your father. I recommend installing teamviewer on a PC at his location and have it running so you can remote in there and make configuration changes to any routers and cams. I use this at home. Works great when you can't be there locally. Also can enable any remote access to routers web pages as well if possible.

The password you select is at your own discretion, the more secure the better, but that's a personal preference.

Have you ever accessed your camera from mydlink using a mobile device or PC not connected to your LAN (i.e through the Internet)?

Log into the DCS-5020L web UI from a browser using a PC on the same LAN as the camera and navigate to the following path SETUP > Network Setup.  Can you please list the LAN Settings, Port Settings, and UPnP Settings?

When you can, you can phone Century Link support and ask them what model modem that is installed there if possible. They should know the model number.

This will help us see if any modem configurations maybe needed or not.

I notice that this seems to be a G mode max WiFi modem...

Or is this the one:

And of course ZyXel's web site doesn't list the PK 5000,
They list the 5001 And that seems to be an N WiFi supporting modem:

However from here, It looks like the ZyXel 5000 is G mode supporting, no N mode support:

We'll need to find out more about the Wifi envrionment at your fathers place as well. Could be other wifi neighbors around him that could be causing WiFi interferences with the ISP modem and can cause problems with the camera connecting to the ISP modem and maintaining a good WiFi connection. When you can>
