Author Topic: Can the DCS-932 L allow me to read the room temperature on a digital thermometer  (Read 5678 times)

Greetings from Belgium

I may buy this camera to be able to monitor the room temperature as I had a problem with the heating recently.
The temperature would be displayed on a digital thermometer where the numbers are 0.4 inch heigh. The camera would be placed in a rather sparsely lit room (where the heater stands) with a window of 25 inch by 14 inch, but directly connected to the outside daylight.

Can anybody estimate whether I will be able to read the figures ??  Or is this just a camera to get an overal image of a room, but not suitable for reading ... text.  ?

Thks most sincerely in advance for your opinion ...

I just experimented with a DCS-930L
5 inches from an LCD display showing temperature 1/4 inch high, the perfectly readable readout occupies about 1/10 of ther screen height
Optimum focus is about 12 inches, but then the image woiuld be smaller.

Greetings.

For less than the cost of this camera you could get a wifi enable remote temperature sensor.

These cameras do not focus. You will see background.

Second try at a reply:  When I first aquired a 932L, I experimented with an lcd digital thermometer.  I found that the reflective surface caused viewing problems, especially in the infrared (see in the dark) mode.  I then bought an analog thermometer with a big indicating needle, bolted to the plenum of the furnace.  This seems to work well; at least until today when a firefox update screwed up the java needed to view the camera in mydlink.com.  I will post about this in another thread.

Regards,
Bob

Thks for all replies and sorry for delayed reaction.
I actually bought the dcs-932L for 79 € and am reasonably satisfied. The temperature is ... readable and that's what I needed. It doesn't need to be very contrast-rich.
And the room is sparsely lit ...

I am also interested to see something of the room, which is a bit disappointing, but I will be able to take advantage in the summer when temp doesn't worry me ...

Tomorrow I will try to set up the email adress and I was told that this may be tricky .... We'll see...

Thks once more for all kind help and Greetings from Belgium

PS Wanted to add an image, but that doesn't work here ...
