Hi

I have a DIR-865L router.  I have a query about whether I have set up my access controls correctly.

Within my router log file I have multiple logs stating

"Got new client [00:90:A9:CF:7E:15] associated from BAND24G-1.1 (2.4 Ghz)"

The MAC address given is not one I have listed in my network settings --> DHCP server settings
I do not have a guest zone enabled, and have password acccess to my network, so I'd assumed that any device that was using my network would should up on the DHCP server settings list.

So is this log file stating that the device with MAC address 00:90:A9:CF:7E:15 is using my network?  If so how do I stop access, and do you have further recommendations for tightening to access on my network.

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Is this MAC address similar to any MACs listed on the router sticker? Just wondering...if you have everything set up and secure and you haven't given the PW out, that should be be appearing I presume...

Is this MAC address listed under Status/Wireless or Status/Device Info/LAN Computers?

...so I've started with the obvious and changed by password, and logged my devices in one by one.  If something strange is still going on then I'll post again.

Okay.

Can I just do a fact check.  If the following message comes up on the log....

"Got new client [insert MAC address here] associated from BAND24G-1.1 (2.4 Ghz)"

....then it means that a device has tried to get onto the network.  Am I right in thinking that that does not mean it actually succeeded in using the network.  If it succeeded then it I would see the IP address of the device also logged in a separate message?

I think it means that the device is actually connected when it says it associated...
