I give Up!!! Need help connecting to internet
« on: December 14, 2013, 12:30:13 PM »

I have tried days and weeks of connecting this bloody camera to the internet so I can setup my dlink. It is going to be used for watching the business during the night that is why I bought it. But for some reason I can not get it to connect thru my COMCAST business service and yes I did call Comcast and they are no help of course. They want to charge an arm and an leg to get to work for me which i hope is not the last resort. But here is the problem I can connect and view via within local network but i can not even get past the software wizard to connect to outside the internet is says that it can not connect to the internet. I have tried port forwarding the camera but with little super geek knowledge that I have I am sure I have done something wrong. The ip address I get is 10.1.10.13 for the camera. The modem is not static Ip as I do not pay for that service. the ip address for the modem is 10.1.10.1. Please please help.

Have you registered with mydlink.com? Is that how you are trying to use it?

Which port have you enabled in the firm ware?

Google what is my ip address..

Not sure about business class.. But generally you will have the same ip unless you power cycle and lose the connection. I don't pay for static but mine hasn't changed in 8 or more months.

I can not even get to the my dlink option when I use the wizard for setup. It will not recognize the camera outside the local internet. The ip address is 10.1.10.13. I have tried port forwarding 80, 554 and the other one which i think 458 or something like that. I feel like when I firmware updated is when I started having problems. I am going to take it home tonight and see if I can even connect using it at home. Thoughts?

Hey:)

If I see right, your internal network Ip is 10.1.10.xxx. You need to conect from the internet to your IP cam, the external IP adress. Port forwarding on your router. You dont need port forwarding at the cam if you have it in your router. For example, the way is: from internet, external iP:open port > router port forwarding 10.1.10.13 :open port.  Btw. i have comcast and my router says, that I have a dynamic IP, BUT the last 6 month they dont change my IP adress. So check this out, whats you external IP and try again.

For all my 6 IP cam's I don't use the port 80 because most of my equipment has 80 as standard. Go with 81 or 1025 for example.

Good luck!

Hi,

Like RYAT3 said, check a site to see what your WAN IP address is, for example http://www.myip.nl/
The WAN IP address is the address to go to when you are not inside your local area network (LAN).

Then, looking at your port forwarder.
Make sure you are using an unused port on which your router is listening. My advice is not to use 80 or 443, since it is scanned a lot from the Internet ;-)

So use for example 12380
If you let this port forward to 10.1.10.13 on port 80 (or 443*) you should be able to access the cam via the url: http://Wan_IP_Address:12380/ As you see, you need to add the port number you choose to the url to make it work.

I can not even get to the my dlink option when I use the wizard for setup.
Technically you don't need My Dlink and just for the record. It is not possible to access your cam with the dlink software when you are connecting trough Internet, in case you tried. Have the router forward a port to your cam's http port (80) and use your web browser like described above.

* It is smart to use https (port 443) when you access your camera trough the Internet, since it is encrypted. If you do not, your username and password are sent in plain text over the Internet. For a first test it is probably best to leave it at 80, but make sure to activate https as soon as you have things working. Remember, when you decide to use https, your should replase http to https in your url.
So the url: http://Wan_IP_Address:12380/ will change to https://Wan_IP_Address:12380/

ok so here is the thing I took it home and tried to setup it up on basic Comcast with linksys smart router and I get nothing. I am starting to think the camera is bad or the firmware update I did is bad. I tried port forwarding at home and still get nothing. Something is  at a miss. Thoughts

Do you know your extern IP (Comcast)? Can you make a test (port forwarding) with a different device. (PC or Mac) Than you can be sure that the connection from the I-Net to your device is ok with the router configuration. If your firewall active, please shut it down for the test period. Could you connect to the cam with your I-Net browser (http://Comcast IP:open port) ?

Ok after much work I have done a dumb thing. So when I updated my firmware to 1.11 I did not use the updated wizard from dlink which DOES make a difference. So now I am up on the Mydlink cloud service which is all fine and stuff and working but I do want to run HD on the computer at home. So I tried going through the ipaddress.mydlink.com option and all I get is black screen. Thoughts? It does work on my cell phone and through mydlick cloud but want the better quality.
