Vista x64
« on: May 31, 2009, 09:26:24 AM »

Thinking of upgrading my Vista x86 PC to x64. Are there any major issues with the dns-323? I noticed some type of samba implementation to address vista issues - does this mean I should wait until 1.08 hits production before I consider 64 bit?

I have had no issues with Vista x64 and the 323.

that said I don't have any persistant drive connections which seems to be one of the issues.

Thanks Arvald, I think I'm ready to take the plunge.

The 323 driver caused my 64-bit machine to fail.  BSOD consistently on shut-down.  Months of problem solving discovered it was the d-link drive.  Removed it and rebuilt the machine and now all is good.

Except now I have a 32-bit Vista and get a "multiple connection not allow" message when trying to perform an external backkup of the drive.

Back to problem solving.

This is Windows  design, it won't allow 2 or more connections to one and the same host (share).
If you, for example, have already mapped \\DNS323\volume1\ as a network drive or via network neighbourhood, your backup program can't establish a new connection to the same path.

You can avoid the message if you use the ip instead of the name, \\192.168.0.xx\volume1\ in your backup program (or the other way round).
Windows will recognize this as a different host and establish the connection without error message.

(you have to replace name / ip and share name with the ones you use at home)

Don't know about Vista x64.....

But I have Windows 7 x64 since the beta came out... now running the RC

And never had an issue accessing the DNS-323 running firmware v 1.06

Also I need to mention that I NEVER installed the X-PnP driver
It seams to cause a lot of issues, and besides you don't need it for normal operation of the DNS-323
