Not being able to map drive in Vista anymore
« on: June 01, 2009, 05:51:45 PM »

:'( So I recently bought the 323 and a 1.5 TB Seagate HD and upgraded to 1.07. Installed and mapped drives on my two desktop PC's (one Vista 32 and one XP) without problems.

Recently upgraded to Vista SP2 and the drive kept working as before. The other day I had issues with the internet and had to re-start the router. After that I could not connect on my Vista PC anymore. Noticed that the Assigned IP address had changed. Reconfigured the 323 and asked for static IP. Now I cannot map the drive anymore on the Vista PC. The Easy Search Utility finds the drive and when I press connect I get the could not map error at times or other times it asks for a login / password which I had not set. Tried the Windows & 323 login but none work. Hooked up a XP laptop which was able to map the drive right away.

Why can't I map a drive with my Vista PC anymore?

Have you tried right clicking on the old map and choosing 'disconnect' and re-running the search utility? Perhaps it is conflicting with the old map.

I actually deleted the Network Storage (Volume 1) Icon in the explorer to see if that would help. Restored it but no disconnect / reconnect option when right clicking.

Keeps getting better. Friend came by with Vista laptop and mapped the drive with no probs.

So I decided to uninstall the VISTA SP2 just in case. Of course something went wrong and it wont boot anymore saying some files got corrupted. Tried to replace these files but no luck. The VISTA repair option don't work so I have to re-install but need to backup my files first.

So I boot into my XP configuration that I had setup as dual boot to map the drive and backup the files. Same thing there, it asks for a password but nothing works?

Could it be that some of my PC hardware went funny on me?

I'm having the same issue.  DNS-323 has worked with my Vista Notebooks for over a year.  Yesterday I noticed my mapped drives were not working.  I can login to the admin interface and access the drive by //192.168.15.10/volume_1 - but I can not map a new drive.  I was running 1.04 and upgraded to firmware 1.07 but it didn't resolve the situation.  I think it is definitely a Vista problem.

Have you tried using the Windows map utility instead of the Easy Search Utility?

I've tried mapping the drives through windows, the easysearch utility, rebooting the NAS, Notebooks, etc.

When using the Windows Utility are you able to choose the option to "Connect using a different user name"? And try it. Be sure to clear anything that may be in the box for the Username.

Windows does not see the drive and returns an error code: 0x80070035.  The admin utility for the nas is accessible via IP.  Using the Easy Search utility I can see the NAS & Volume - it just won't map.

So if you goto the RUN command line and type \\192.168.15.10 (your DNS-323 IP address) hit Enter you should see Volume_1. Right click on it and goto "Map Network drive" and proceed to map it fails here or you do not see Volume_1? You stated Windows does not see the drive and returns the error code.

What is the IP address of your Vista PC? Also if you goto you NIC card properties you you have a check box next to File and "Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks"?

I have a DNS-323 SW 1.06 that did not respond to the admin password with webb access (192.168.0.32).
some times I cod access it (random) with my mapped drive and did a backup.

I upgrade it to SW 1.07 after a reset (no password on admin).

now it starts to say my disk is in the wrong slot? I have change the disk 2 times but the unit dont agree with me so I removed one disk and format the drive. I reinstall disk 2 and format to RAID1 (again)

I know again have a 498G RADI1 network disk.

Mapped drive on XP32 no problem
Can't map drive on VISTA64 (i can map a driv on vista64 if I have user "ALL" on the DNS-323)
I can access "download" on DNS-323 via 192.168.0.32 user/password with my Vista64SP1 IE

I have a DNS-321 v1.02 and the only way I was able to get a drive mapped to the NAS was to issue this command from a DOS Prompt:

  net use * \\192.168.0.XX\Volume_1 /user:john

NOTE:  Volume_1 may be case sensitive
          AND
Insert your DNS-321 IP address where I put 192.168.0.XX
          AND
replace john with your user name BUT DO NOT USE ADMIN!!!

This mapped a drive Z to the DLink NAS.

Before this I could not map a drive and Easy Search kept displaying the message "Failed to map drive" every time I tried to map a drive.  Easy Search found the NAS and the volumes but could not map a drive.

Good Luck,
John

I had a similar problem in XP with a DNS-321 and managed to map the drive via the Easy Search utility by entering, when prompted, admin as the username with no password.
