PS Vita causes router to lock up
« on: February 09, 2014, 05:43:10 AM »

Anytime i connect my vita to the router  the entire interface freezes. Websites start to slow to a crawl and overall bandwidth drops to abysmal levels.  I can turn off the wifi on the vita itself and instantly my entire computer and network is back to normal.

Anyone know how to fix?

What wireless modes are you using?
Try WPA/TPIK only then try WPA2/AES only.
Disable HT20/40Mhz Co-existence to test.

This is the exact same description of what happens when I connect a bluetooth mouse and keyboard to my tablet.  As soon as I turn off the 2 devices the wireless goes back to normal.  I have tried all kinds of combinations to fix and it happens with the 2.4 range.  These may be related or not at all, based on the symptoms.

This only happened with the latest beta firmware.

It did not matter what setting the wireless was on as soon as the vita connected it started collisions and dropping packets for the entire network and also locks the router ui up.

reverting back to 1.10 seems to have fixed the issue.

Any WiFi devices that tranmit on or near 2.4Ghz will effect the radio on the router.

Glad going back to v1.10 fixed it.

This is true, however we have 2.4 devices at work and I have no issues AND I have a DIR-825 at home that also does not have the same issues.

I will try going back to 1.10 and see if I see better results.

Switching to TKIP helped for me, but the only true fix is dropping it down to 802.11G mode - then the Vita worked just fine.  (Chromecast has the same problem)  For me the Streamboost is useful enough that I actually keep the DGL-5500 just for that and rely on another wireless AP for wireless.

Are the Vitas N supporting? What security mode do they support?

Yes, they support N, and they support WPA/WPA2 AES/TKIP.  My Chromecast does the exact same thing as the Vita - remember my post a few months ago about it?  :)

Did you phone contact D-Link support about it yet?

Maybe the new release will help...Still not sure when though...I presume this month or next.

No, I just tried to disable wireless as much as it'll let you (DGL-5500 refuses to let you turn wireless off completely and save settings), and then I use another AP for wireless while the DGL-5500's sole purpose is as a Streamboost processor.  In my experience even when Streamboost doesn't recognize the particular app I'm using it still does a better job making everything share bandwidth than normal QoS does.

Right.  If you try to turn off both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi the router refuses to do it, and you have to turn one or the other back on before it'll save settings again.
