first i want to thank tiptsr for all his classes :)...use this @ you own risk it work for me :) this is using vista 64 sp2 dir655 a4 1.21b08

ok here is the latest results. my problems are gone this is my set and configure on the dir 655 a4
first let me tell you what i have try in adapters for over 2 weeks of testing... if i say no good is either slow downloads or disconnects and believe me i have try every channels and settings :)

adapters:
wusb600n v2 xp and 32 bit ----64bit no good expensive
dwa160 v2 xp and 32 bit-----64bit no good    expensive
dwa 130 b1 c1 d1 best is the b1 stable and fast on xps and vista 32only.
 f5d8053 v1 v2 v3 v4 v5 =best v3 on xp and vista 32---64 no good
 f5d 8055 v1111 v1000 =best v 1111 on xp and vista 32 vista-- 64bit no good

now here is the best set up for this dir 655 a4 using vista 64
adapter [f5d8053 v5] signal on router status 92% and on the vista status all bars exellent and a second floor of a 4000sqft house
{best firmware 1.21b08} i also try the 1.22b05 not stable on fast downloads
channel set it to less traffic using a wifi monitor
20hz
personal
wpa2
aes

very important tip that boost my signal from 66 to 92 % instantly
place router with lights facing down and looking the router from left to right ,the first 2 antennas on the left straight up and the last one on the right, bend it one click to the right :) either way you place the router or antennas you wont have any problems it just give you a very big boost on signal ..

now i dont have disconnects fully stable and during day time i get 28000 speeds wireless and @ night i get 30000 downloads and wired always 32000 here is the site i use »speedtest.cfl.rr.com/

Ryant, I tried your suggestion with the router and antenna placement and it works for me! I sit in my garage (most of the time so I can chain smoke) and the signal has to pass through 3 walls and typically my signal strength comes in at around %70-%80 with the signal meter fluctuation between 2 and 3 bars. Since trying your setup, my wireless signal STAYS at 100% and it has yet to drop below 3 bars. It now fluctuates between 3 and 4. Thanks!

But this is good only if you need signal on the same floor as the adapter is. It wont work well if you need the signal 4 floors straight up as i do.

But thanks for sharing.

4 floors! Wow. Can you use the internet over wireline adapters?

for those who need signal up above, you may want the lateral part of the antenna facing upward. There is wireless "shadow" or dead spots at the tip and bottom of the antenna. You could think of it as a donut that grows with distance. as the wireless donut grows, so does the hole in the middle, so that wireless dead spot grows as well.

wusb600n v2 xp and 32 bit ----64bit no good expensive
dwa160 v2 xp and 32 bit-----64bit no good    expensive

dlink f5d8053 v1 v2 v3 v4 v5 =best v3 on xp and vista 32---64 no good
dlink f5d 8055 v1111 v1000 =best v 1111 on xp and vista 32 vista-- 64bit no good

wait the WUSB600n when you said no good... you mean no good ONLY on 64 bit? and same goes with dwa160?

how is the WUSB600n and DWA160 on xp and vista 32bit?

and from range, the dwa130, wusb600n, dwa160... which is the best (i know that dwa130 is the lowest wireless n card).

Can you clear that up a little. cause im thinking if i should get wusb600n or the dwa160. I am running xp and vista 32bit.
