Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Drivers for this should be on D-Links web page for your region...

I lost my CD which came with this D-Link AirPlus XtremeG wireless cardbus adapter. The driver is no longer in my laptop! According to the D-Link USA website, my adapter is no longer supported by them.
Based on some comments read during an internet search, only a driver specifically for Version C1 will work? (I have found version A & version B available for download)

(FYI, my router is a Linksys E2000)

Thank you for your quick reply FurryNutz.
I see two driver downloads are offered at the link you listed :
Driver 3.17,  11/11/03
Driver 4.40,    1/21/08

Assume Driver 3.17 is what I need, or will the other work also? My laptop runs on Windows XP Professional.
Also do you know the significance of the C1 version vs. D-Link's C?

Thanks again. Actually found Driver 3.0.0.44 which is allowing  "linking" to my router. The DWL-G650 has both LED's blinking in unison, but won't connect to the internet.

So after loading the driver you can get it working and connected to the main host router however it won't connect to the internet via the router?

Might test the main host routers WiFi and set the security to OPEN temporarily and test.

Is the PC getting and IP address from the router via the DWL? Can you ping the router or access the main routers web page?

OK was able to obtain 4 pings & access the internet by opening security on the router (normally set at maximum, WPA.)
How do I set up the DWL-G650 to connect with security back on?

if you turn on the security, the DWL should ask you for the PW info again...

The "available network" appearing in the "connect to wireless network" window is the correct name.
But there is a statement "The network requires the use of a network key (WEP)."  But my actual router security mode is WPA2/WPA mixed.
If I type in my password (7 letters and one digit) in the network key block,  a "wireless configuration" window pops up  which states "the network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or  10 or 26 hexadecimal characters."
What am I missing here?

The DWL is not supporting of the WPA/WPA 2 security mode I believe. Change the security mode on the main host router to WEP and test to see the results...

Thanks for your help FurryNutz.
I was able to find Driver Version 5.3.0.46 (dated 5-28-07) via the internet.
When installed, it allowed me to access the internet via my router which is using WPA2/WPA security mode.
