Galaxy S4 issues with 5Ghz wifi
« on: March 12, 2014, 08:41:57 AM »

I am having a problem connecting my S4 to my dlink router Dir-815, my S4 wont work on 5Ghz frecuency, it used to work before but it stopped working when i got my speed upgraded, i used to have 25mbps and it work perfect in wireless 5Ghz but i upgraded to 50mbps and it wont work anymore, most of the time when i try to connect to my network which i named specially for 5Ghz it says "Saved,Secured" but doesnt connect, and after disableling security or changing it, it connects but doesnt load any site.   i try change all the settings but still doesnt work, i was working fine with 25mbps

has anyone experience this issue?  anyway al my computers work fine when connected to 5Ghz

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?

b]Wireless Configurations[/b]
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
  • If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, Extra Wireless Protection and HT 20/40 Co-existence if you have it. Also testing with HT20/40Mhz Co-existence enabled will impact results as well. I prefer to use this option OFF. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Upgrading ISPs should not effect how devices connect to the main host router...
Was the S4 updated recently?
If you temporarily disable WiFi security on the router, does the S4 connect then? Re-enabled after testing.

It's not recommended to speed test on WiFi vs wired. Theres too many variables and possible interferences on Wifi that can cause inaccurate speed results on Wireless. I recommend only speed testing wired LAN.

There as been some issues with S4 phones and D-Link routers...
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=54164.0

Please help us in answering some of the questions presented so we can get a better idea of what is going on and go from there...

I recommend having some friends come over and test there phones out on your router as well.
If other devices are working on this router, leads me to think that the problem is with the phone...
