ir extender
« on: June 05, 2009, 03:54:38 PM »

I am using the 750 as an extender to windows 7.  I also have a cable box that is required to change the channels....Does the 750 and an IR extender that take the incoming ir signal for channel changing and output to the cable box?

Not sure how else to get the channels to change in media center.

No. You would need to install a TV tuner card into the Windows7 PC. It is just is if you where going to use Windows Media Center to watch TV. You need a TV or Tuner card then the extender function of the DSM-750 would allow you to access MCE on the Windows7 PC.

I have a tv tuner card....

When channels are changed via the extender, something needs to extend that ir signal to the set top box.

that is why i'm asking if the 750 has an ir extender

I'm not sure what you're asking. Do you want the remote control of the 750 to double as a remote for your cable box, like a universal remote control?  Is that what you're asking?

if any hardware for ir extender, your tuner card would have included this.
I have a Hauppage wintvr 1600 and it came with the ir extender for that purpose.
