Discrepancy In Devices Listed
« on: March 20, 2014, 05:37:57 PM »

Using my new DIR-655 (HW:C1/FW:3.01), which is replacing my old one (HW:A4/FW:1.37), I just noticed a discrepancy between the devices listed in Device Info and Network settings:

Looking at Status -> Device Info, I see this list:

Now here's what I see in Setup -> Network Settings:

Notice that not all the devices in Lan Computers are in the Number of Dynamic DHCP Clients Network Settings list.  In my older DIR-655 mentioned above, when a new device was added, it showed up in both lists.  This would give you an easy way to reserve an IP address for each device connected to the router, and give it a different name as needed.  With this new DIR-655, there is a lot more manual effort to reserve an IP.

Does anyone know when this changed between the C1/3.01 and A4/1.37 versions?  What is the process to ask the folks at D-Link to fix what used to work so well?

Does each device have a host name input value? null value means that the router was unable to get any host name information from the device. This is usually the norm for newer generation routers

Actually, the two devices showing the null value do have proper names.  I double-checked a screenshot I had from the older DIR-655 to verify.  I don't understand how this newer router was not able to pick them up.

So you are saying that if there is no host name, it won't show up in the Dynamic DHCP Clients list, even though they are assigned an IP by DHCP?

The device should appear in the Dynamic Clients list regardless of host name value. If no host name value is on the device, then "unknown" should be displayed. The only devices that may not appear in the Dynamic clients list is devices that have a Static IP address on them and not a Dynamic DHCP address. The Static IP addressed devices will only usually appear in the Status/Device Info/Lan Connections section.

What are these two (null) devices?

Ok, I guess that makes sense.  Still curious that in the older router everything showed up in both places.

What are these two (null) devices?
One is a TiVo Mini, and the other is a Livio radio.

Do these two devices have a host name input value option someplace with in there networking settings by chance?
