Storage mount?
« on: April 18, 2014, 02:54:40 AM »

Hi
Once an external USB drive is connected to the DIR-868L, is there a way to mount it on Mac or Windows?
I mean the usual way, SMB, not via a web interface?

My Mac connect to server option shows it but never allows me to connect despite the right user/pwd and read/write privileges.
Under Windows 7 or 8, no way to Map network drive.

Any clue?

Hi,
Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately, I'm interested in the Mac.
if I select Connect to server... then I can browse and see DIR-868L
No way to connect to it using any kind of user, not even admin.
The users I have defined are turned down.
The only way to connect is the router "Admin" (capital A) user but this is not acceptable as I need to control who accesses what.

Using the \\192.168.0.1 always tells me that the folder doesn't exist.

The shareport access list IPs:ports are of no use either as they work only in a browser.

Any idea?
Thanks for any help.

I can manually map to the drive using the following: \\192.168.0.1\usb_A1 in Windows or smb:\\192.168.0.1\usb_A1 for Mac to connect to the drive with out having to use the Shareport application.

I do not now if specified users can access using user names using the above method... specifying user names on the router deals with incoming web storage access and mydlink services from the WAN side.

Ok,
using the SMB prefix does the same thing as connecting to the network with the Network Browse button.
No way to log in besides the Router Admin user.
Unfortunately of no use to me :-(

Actually,
Since I'm not giving up, I now can mount the drive using Samba on my Mac
smb://[router address]

But, each user I have created is refused. The only way to access it is by
logging in using the Router admin account. Then I access the entire attached drive.
But I have created two other usernames, whith limited access to one specific folder.
None of those users/passwords are accepted.

What I did: Setup > Storage > User Creation
The users are listed correctly with the good access rights.

Are those users and this page only for SharePort or universal to any kind of
access like SMB ???

Thanks for any clarification.

I believe the user list is for SP and SP remote access, not for local LAN side access. Yes local map drive or SMB should work however using that you'll need to use the admin log in.

Ok then.
I'll do this. It's for backup purposes anyway but my wife will probably wonder what the "technical" folders are when accessing the root folder. No problem though.
Thanks again

Just shower her what she should click on and you'll be ok.

Enjoy.  ;)
