I want to reduce the number of emails the motion detector is kicking out. This morning I had about 120 emails created from just 6:38am through 9:30am. I don't know why it started at 6:38am as I had it set to 7:00am until noon. Is it using EST instead of my CST?

Many of the emails have nobody showing in the picture. I don't know what is setting off the motion detector in that case. (We have no pets.) There were 3 windows in the view. Does the sun cause the motion detector to fire off a picture? Probably a tenth of all the pictures actually has someone from my family (there are 3 of us) in the picture.

The sensitivity is set at 85%. I can lower it but I want it to work when someone enters the view so don't want to lower too much.

We are going on vacation tomorrow. My son has strict orders not to bring any one over while we are gone as we had problems with that in the past. He is an adult now and doesn't go on vacation with us. Yes he knows about the camera. I want it to send an email when he enters the view but not send all these pictures with nobody in them.

What are your Day/Night mode settings?

We use 65% sensitivity on our indoor cameras, and that seems to get most motion while minimizing the night/sunlight/cloud light triggers

If you log into the web UI from a browser using a PC on the same LAN, what are the settings under SETUP > Motion Detection and SETUP > Day/Night Mode

Incrementally reduce the Sensitivity from 85% to a lower number and your false positives should decrease accordingly.

You can start at a very low percentage (e.g. 10%) and work your way up.

LOL. . . Yes, correct, the DCS-930L does not support night vision. That's a symptom of my jumping on too many boards at the same time.

You can play with the sensitivity and motion detection boxes all you want. You will not be happy. You either miss the action or get a ton of empty frames. The motion detection algorithm is simply not very smart. I can't tell you how many times I have missed the action. The only sure way is continuous recording through some third party software. BTW, they know how to get around the camera!
