How Much Image Area
« on: May 03, 2014, 01:07:59 AM »

Is it ok to use 100% of the image area for motion detection? Or can this cause problems?

It depends on your situation.

Using 100% of the field of view (FOV) for motion detection will probably work for most applications. Consider the following scenarios where you may want to exclude a portion of the FOV:

  • An oscillating fan running 24x7 in the corner of the camera FOV may continually set-off false motion detection triggers (exclude the specific area containing the fan)
  • A large grandfather clock with a swaying pendulum moving 24x7 may continually set-off false motion detection triggers (exclude the specific area containing the moving portion of the clock)
  • A camera monitoring a bedroom room with a window in the FOV, where cars are constantly driving by the window (exclude the area containing the window to avoid outside activity not relevant for monitoring)

Thank you,  It`s just that once when I was online with a  D-Link tech, he disabled a lot of my image area. Even though I wanted it to cover my entire yard outside.  He just selected a lot of random boxes and left it like that.

Odd. Perhaps the support desk was just testing a portion of image area for troubleshooting purposes and simply didn't take the time to select the entire grid.
