DIR-655 Time (WORK AROUND)
« on: May 27, 2014, 11:38:38 AM »

I read the posts on this before starting this new thread, but saw no answers, just workarounds. The time is 1 hour behind if the settings are as they should be.
This is with 2.11NA installed.
The offset is +1 hour, and that should be correct, or am I whacked?

Is NTP server enabled or disabled?

We have seen some issues with it being an hour off. What Time Zone are you located?

We believe this has something to do with the DST of the FW as it only seems to happen when DST kicks in.
What happens if you adjust the offset to -1 or more?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

To make it correct I turned off NTP, since it seemed to not have any effect, and went with sync to computer clock.
I tried the -1 hr and funny thing, same time showed as with +1 hr. I'm in Mt Time Zone.
Running on Charter cable, with their provided SurfBoard modem.

Ok, I've asked about this however haven't received any info on it.

And the ISP modem doesn't have any built in routers? Just making sure.

I believe this is the only router model that does this when DST hits.  ::)

And with NTP does it keep better time, just an hour off?

As far as I can tell its an hour off. Don't know if that's being based on the pc time or if it's even checking a timeserver.
If I have to manually correct time and for dst then no reason to use ntp. I can sync with pc occassionally. Shouldn't have to. Looking into this online it appears that many have had this issue over past years and fw versions. Not good for sales I'd think.

Ya I know...I would recommend that you phone contact D-Link support and ask for level 2 or higher help and specifically ask them about this. Yes this has been going on for a while. I'll put my Rev B back online and check it out. I'll pass this to my contact and see if maybe we can get some information regarding this.

Please let us know what you find out.

Just had Charter come over and replace the modem (docsis3) and so when he left I checked the router and the system time was hours slow again. Just reset it to sync with PC.
I'll try and call them today, thanks.

Called them and my router is out of warranty so they want a credit card.  Ain't gonna happen.  I'll try and fix it myself with online help.

Ok, heres was I got, I'm in the MST time zone.

If NTP server is enabled and I'm in Time Zone MST, Time Zone set to MST, time is 1 hour behind. Even if DST is enabled or not.  >:( If i set Central Time Zone from MST and reboot, the time will be an hour ahead and correct.

Now if i disable DST and use manual time sync from PC, time is correct if I use +30 on Off Set, save settings and reboot the router. Time is correct for MST and remains about 1 minute behind actual time on my PC after checking status after reboot.  :D

Now, if I reboot the router again while using manual sync with PC time, save settings and reboot router, say 5 minutes from last sync with PC, after router reboots, log in and check the time? The time is no longer up to date and reverts back to the last sync of time with the PC.  :-\ If I went over 5 minutes and reboot the router, the time reverts back to last sync with PC and time is even more behind from actual time at each reboot.

My 2 cents.

If just selecting timezone and one of the NPT in the pulldown would just work.......? This can't be too hard for the programmers to get functioning correctly. With the 60 second reboot after changing settings, I think I'll just live with it until they fix it (who am I kidding, its been broken for years).
Thanks for doing the testing and verifying the problem is across the board (or is it, anyone NOT having time problems?).

Ya I know.  ::)

Give the manual sync, TZ and +30 offset a try. Seems to be working for me.
