Router does a soft reset while printing if QoS entry exists

I have a Vonage V-Portal attached to my DIR-655 and I set up a QoS Entry for it to improve my call quality.

I noticed that the router does a soft restart when printing documents longer than 2 pages if I have this entry enabled.  I have tried 1.30 through 1.32beta but I still have the problem.  So my choices are - clearer calls/no call drops, or using the Shareport feature.  I bought the router for both.

P.S.  I have my eye on the DIR-685 for the storage and multi Shareport features.  If it has the same issues, count me out.

I found Dynamic Fragmentation caused me a lot of problems. Turned it off and they disappeared.

Could help, Dynamic Fragmentation is a variable setting which is sometimes to be adjusted for certain attached devices (which does not mean the router is broken, but the attached device can or cannot handle the fragmentation patters)

Regarding Dynamic Fragmentation. I have that box checked but it "might" have checked itself when I first turned QOS on. After reading this thread and the D-Link help file I'm considering un-checking it. I probably will just to see what happens. From the help file:

Dynamic Fragmentation
This option should be enabled when you have a slow Internet uplink. It helps to reduce the impact that large low priority network packets can have on more urgent ones by breaking the large packets into several smaller packets.

My router measures my uplink speed as: Measured Uplink Speed : 4289 kbps

What would be considered a "slow" uplink speed?


Edit:dumb question, I know and probably subjective, but I'm, you know, curious.

Thank you Demonized. I've already turned Dynamic Fragmentation off. I probably don't use QOS to the extent that others do, if at all. I was using it for my Slingbox and I'm not even sure if that is the right application of QOS. Although, if it is, having DF turned on might account for the annoying split-second pauses in the stream. As soon as I replace my STB to which it was attached I'll be able to verify my musing.

1. Yes, "slow" is relative and subjective, but humor me and tell me what you consider slow.

2. The post really was to let D-Link know that having an active QoS entry in the router while printing may result in a soft restart.

Yes, you are correct. Right after I made my post I realized that it was not on topic and for that, I apologize. To compound matters I continued the conversation with Demonized. I have been guilty of that on numerous fronts and I will make a concerted effort to stop doing it. My problem is that I tend to say whatever pops into my head. I might start out with the intention of replying to the topic and then later see that I seriously ran off the road.
My question regarding slowness was in relation to Dynamic fragmentation and where is the cutoff for what is regarded as slow, and what isn't. Demonized gave me the simple answer I was looking for and in doing so I felt comfortable in turning DF off. I wish I could contribute to the actual subject of this thread, but I can't so I hope someone can give you an answer, Papachungo.

The upload speed I get from my ISP is probably better than average. It used to be 2000 kbps and that was good for me but they graciously upgraded me to 5000 kbps without even asking. What I was trying to ascertain is what speed does Dynamic Fragmentation consider slow. Considering what I have grown accustomed to, anything less than 2000 kbps would be slow. Now I can blame you for making me take a dirt road off of the topic highway.  :D

I have Vonage also but with a very active Lan load 2 wired pc's, xbox360, wireless laptop, 2 wireless desktop.
QoS is a very good Ideal but I never could stop the dropped calls or choppy audio until I gave Vonage V-Portal a Static IP, with Mac filters active and DHCP running the lan.
Since doing so I have not had dropped calls or choppy audio. Qos just can't handle the load of torrents and heavy load I'm thinking. I don"t even have it enabled anymore.

Also since the issue with the firmware, even if the router reboots the static ip is rock solid.
If your making changes inside the routers firmware you'll prolly have to reboot the V-Portal from time to time. Just keep an eye on it.

I already had all your suggested settings (implemented on the first day I got the router), but I still had dropped calls and choppy audio.  After I implemented QoS, VoIP got better, but the resetting started.  Flashing the new version seemed to make VoIP better without the QoS entry.
