I would like to replace my existing DIR-615 with a DIR-655. The 615 doesn't seem to have enough signal strength to stream 1080p to my new Roku Streaming Stick downstairs. Otherwise it has been fine. Since the 615 was set up, TDS has installed fiber-to-the-premises. When they did this, they reclaimed the Actiontec modem I had, and I am now using ethernet from the 615 directly to a wall jack with DHCP. My problem in setting up the new 655 is this: both the installation CD and the FAQ How-To say the required first step is to turn off or unplug the modem, which obviously I can not do. I am able to get the 655 to provide excellent wifi service over my LAN, and can access the router's web page, but I cannot get a connection to the internet, even when renewing the DHCP lease, presumably because the modem has not been reset. Is there a standard setup procedure for my situation? I'm wondering if I need to call TDS to see if they can remotely reset my connection, but my understanding is there is no modem anywhere in the pipline to reset. Also, I'm not sure at what point they would need to do the reset. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
