Is it possible to share the ipad creAted hotspot ?
« on: July 17, 2014, 01:00:09 AM »

Hi,

I just bought the 510l mobile router
I was wondering if it was possible to share through it or relay an ipad hotspot (the ipad itself being connected through3 or 4g to the internet).

The 510l can't seem to find the ipad created hotspot hotspot when looking for available hotspots )o;

Thank you for any precision on this !

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

I haven't tried this with my iPhone so I don't know off the top of my head. I may be possible and you'd think it would be if other devices can connect to the iPad hotspot...

Do other non Apple devices connect to this hotspot?

Hey,

To answer your questions :
- The firmware version is the latest 1.03.
- the hardware version is the first and latest i guess : A1
- the region i bought the modem is australia, with an australian sim allpwing for hotspots, the ipad is from the US

Though i can not find the ...
Ok my bad.

I just realized the network might be on the 2.4Ghz band and switched to this network on the computer initializing the router config.

And tadaaa.
It is now working.

Now if only the ipad could somehow communicate with the computer on the network it creates, that would be awesome (so that plex client on the ipad and server on the computer) might communicate that would be even more awesome.

Though it raises more questions that i can define for now ...

Are there any chances to one day access some port forwarding capabioities with a firmware update on the dir-510L mobile router ? Or is it materially impossible ?

Anyway thanks for the follow up !

Glad you got it figured out.  ;)

As for port forwarding, is there any such features mentioned in the User Manual?

This is a mobile router so it maybe that these mobile devices may not ever support such forward options as that is mainly used at non mobile locations like home for devices and services that need those features.

Previous models of D-Link mobile routers, e.g., DIR-506L do support port forwarding and most other features that we expect to find in a router.  For some reason D-Link has decided to dumb down simplify user interface on DIR-510L, and in the process took all advanced features out.  There is no access to logs, no port forwarding, etc.  and I don't have much hope that it will be added in future f/w releases.
