DIR-615 H1 - infinite boot-up loop
« on: July 22, 2014, 07:21:49 AM »

Hello all!

I have a DIR-615 H1 router who doesn't boot up any more. If i unplug the power cord and plug it back in (no other cable is connected to the router) the following behavior is observed:

1. LAN port LEDs 1 and 3 flash green once;
2. Power LED is orange, stays orange and then flashes orange once;
3. Power LED is OFF and LAN port LEDs 1 and 3 flash green once and back to step 2.

Basically, the router is in an infinite boot-up loop described by the 3 steps above.

I tried to reset it with 30-30-30 method and install different firmwares:
1. "Firmware v8.04 build 04" - from here: http://www.dlink.com/ro/ro/support/product/dir-615-wireless-n-300-router?revision=deu_revh
2. "DIR-615 H1/H2 Firmware - Webflash image for first installation" - from here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/download/D-Link/DIR-615/H1/H2/dlink-dir615h-factory-webflash.bin/3974

The only difference is that with the DD-WRT firmware the boot-up behavior is a little different (again, no cable is connected to the router other than the power cord):
1. LAN port LEDs 1 and 3 flash green once;
2. Power LED is orange, stays orange and then turns green;
3. Internet LED is orange, stays orange;
4. WiFi LED blinks green 2 times;
5. LAN port LEDs 1 and 3 flash green once and back to step 2.

Do you know if I can do anything to it or should I just buy a new one?

Thanks in advance for your support!

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

Try this:
Emergency Recovery Mode

If this fails, I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I'm located in Romania, Eastern Europe.

I tried the Emergency Recovery Mode already, using Firefox as instructed there, but I do not see any success page at the end. Only the progress goes to 100% (and remains like that) and I see that the router is attempting to boot-up but ends up in an infinite-loop like I described.

Ya, seems that the router is now bricked.  :'(

Well in that case, it's off to the junk with it :) I bought a new router from a different producer (TP Link) - hope it will be more reliable than my old D-Link.
