DIR-625 Connection Problems
« on: June 17, 2009, 02:21:08 PM »

Hi,

I have a DIR-625, Rev A with Firmware 1.09. It is connected to a cable (Rogers in Canada) modem and 5 devices in our home.

We have a problem where often (more than once a day now) one or more of the devices cannot connect to the wireless network. If a device already has a connection, it usually maintains it. No other device can get on.

The problem seems internal: some of the devices show they cannot connect to the wireless network. Others show they can connect, but can't get an IP address, or maybe they do have an IP address, but can't access the router's web page. No specific errors show in the router or computer logs.

Our Devices:
Dell laptop with Windows XP, that runs a L2TP VPN connection for work most of the day
Asus laptop that dual boots Ubuntu 9.04 and Vista (problem occurs either way)
iMac running Leopard
HP wireless printer
Nintendo Wii

The Asus is usually just doing e-mail and the internet, but it has been running Facebook games like Farm Town quite a bit lately. The problems got worse since my wife started playing those. This computer usually can't connect to the wireless when it starts up. It is closest to the router, so I did try disabling the wireless in it and using a cable. It still looses its network connection from time to time.

The Mac is interesting: it does have an 802.11n card, but the router shows it connecting with 11g. It will run most of the day just fine, then when the Asus starts up, it will drop its wireless. If I disable the Airport card and re-enable it, it will connect for a few minutes (5 min at the most) then drop again.

Adding the printer to the network seemed to make these problems more frequent too. I did add an access control filter to keep it from accessing the internet, but that doesn't seem to help.

The router uses WPA2 personal encryption. The other settings are as default.

I have reset the router to see if that would help. It did not.

I can usually fix the problem by unplugging both the router and the cable modem, and plugging them back in. Today this did not work. I had to bypass the router for a while, but but after a couple of hours it started working again.

The problems are more frequent in the evenings but can occur throughout the day.

I have been having the exact same issues. Rogers customer. DIR-625. 2 computers running vista and connected wirelessly. bought teh modem yesterday...set it up and it worked perfectly all evening...turnined it on today to use it...fine...turned the comp off...came back in the evening around 8pm. turned the comp on...left it on till 1:00am when i got home (left earlier...after i got back)....my computer was still connectred...my partners ould not find an IP...had o unplug both modem and router...

i believe the firmware is up-to-date for the router ... as i checked to make sure yesterday....

i have no idea what to do...we just had a d-link 615 just crap out on us and can't find the receipt to replace it under warranty so we bought this model...kinda getting tired of d-link despite it's reputation and my previous experience with it.

What I have found useful is to go into the Router and tell the router to reboot.
Tools, System, Reboot Device

Once this happens the connection is usually stable for a long time.  Only my work VPN seems to mess it up when I shut down the laptop without disconnecting the VPN first.

I don't know what the difference is between power cycle and reboot, but the reboot fixed the issue for me.

Reboot == restart the unit with the power still connected

Power Cycle == turn off the power (diconnect the power supply cable from the back of the unit.) Wait for a few seconds and then reconnect to power (turn on.)

Same issue.  Three computers trying to connect to the same DIR-625.  We had no problem for two years.  Now suddenly only my computer, the one directly connected to the router can get online, nobody else can get through with the password.

I have been having the exact same issue.  I usually have to reboot my router every few days.  I am getting to the point where I am just going to replace the router.

wow no current fix?

got this very issue, nearly a daily thing.

kinda getting old...

My internet setup is simple, Modem -> DGL-4500 -> DIR-625

DGL-4500 takes most of the heavy load, ie. Vonage and torrents
the DIR-625 is for the rest of the computers in the house (Wirelessly) but it cuts out here and there.
frankly, i'm about to replace the DIR-625 with a better, more reliable router.

unless the DIR-625 can be fixed, and this problem is addressed.

There have been some issues with this router. Verify these setting for your D-Link router. Go into the settings for the router. Choose the "Advanced" tab at the top and then the "Advanced Wireless" at the left. Change the RTS Threshold to 2306 and the Fragmentation Threshold to 2306. Go to the "Setup" tab and then choose "Wireless Settings" at the left. Change settings to "Mixed 802.11n, 802.11g, and 802.11b". Then choose "Save Settings". The router will reboot.

I have had this router for about 2 years I think and have been having this issue for a few months on and off; not nearly as often as people note here. I also sent a support request to DLink because this seems to be occurring more regular, this week was 4 times in the past 3 days but no issue for nearly a month until now. I cannot access the router config from my LAN PC UNTIL I unplug the WAN cable, this is concerning since obviously something is causing a DoS attack and I suspect it may be a rogue app from Facebook (I have Comcast for ISP).  My config was unchanged for over a year when this started. Other possible causes may be our new WiFi printer, but that should not be an issue as that even loses connection. This started when my uncle, who uses Google cloud services, came over and has been a problem ever since. Also note various "IP Spoofing" messages in the router log for WiFi connections, my PC remains unaffected EXCEPT to access the router. I run 2 Win7 machines and 3 Win Vista machines, Vista machines dominantly have this issue but not all have the issue at the same time, some can still use internet and some cannot. Possibly a hung service or something, very irritating indeed.  Facebook/Bing are last accessed pages on the failed connection PC, failed incoming DNS (port 53) queries from Comcast cable (use robtex.com to lookup IP information from router log). I have various filters running to block things like Chinese IP's, Google (this stopped this issue for a couple months until my niece came over), and various other IP's that have been port scanning my router. I did the following to try and track down the culprit which have found the above mentioned results:

1> Enable a policy for "Other" IP addresses to log web pages only (Advanced --> Access Control)
2> The next time this happens plug in a LAN cable to the router if none exists already
3> Attempt to open the router config, if fails unplug WAN and try again (this ALWAYS works for me)
4> Look at the log and the last page(s) accessed

another thing that worked fairly simply for me, was i protected the wifi with a WEP key (I set mine for G only) and noticed that there are piggy backing jack waggons out here where i live.  The router doesn't handle multiple failed connections very well... in fact it locks up after so many failures.

Same problem here. The only way I can temporarily fix this is to reboot the router. Please someone find a fix for this as I do not want to waste more money on another router. :)

Same problem here, mine's worked well for years without any disconnects at all but has over the last few months been having more & more disconnects, now frequently several times a day.  I wonder of it's anything to do with EOL support for this model or do these things just wear out like the 7 years to the day life span programmed into my smoke detectors?
