1.32 b02 - Thoughts
« on: June 17, 2009, 06:17:18 PM »

Well I just upgraded from 1.31 final, since my port forwarding issues arose again after it was powered cycled quite a bit yesterday (was having some electrical work done).

Did my now-standard procedure: held down the reset button for 20s, then restore defaults via browser, then flash. After it flashed, I restored the defaults via the browser and held the reset button after.

As it stands, everything is working as it should. Though I don't use Shareport, SecureSpot or WiFi Protected Setup. Hopefully it stays working...

So +1 to D-Link for fixing things (or so it seems, router has been up for 8h now)

If this is really solving your issue, we can come back to a remark (I) made a few months ago: the flash procedure does not work 100% (erasing the blocks). Report back on your experiences! Thanks.

Well it's still all good =)

Even power cycled it on Friday without issues. As it stands, my WAN has been up 1 day, 11h. Zero issues to report. Even DNS Relay seems to be working fine.

Well everything just went bad today...

Router "froze", so I pulled the power for a couple seconds and plugged it back in. It reset itself to defaults apparently so I had to reconfigure everything (silly me didn't save the config).

And now I'm back to my Port Forwarding/Virtual Server settings not saving. Oh joy. UPnP seems to work though, so that semi-helps but not entirely.

;) Never be so quick to pass judgement. My router two days ago, reset it'self to factory defaults..but I think someone did it because the internet wasn't working beacuse of the 4th day router freeze problem.

lol I made the mistake of thinking D-Link actually fixed the firmware  ;D

So I'm back to my typical issue of port forwarding/virtual server settings not saving. Oh so much fun. At this point if any of D-Link's engineers (if they even look at this), need anything from me to somehow help diagnose the issue, I'd be more than willing. I just want a stable router that has all its features working properly.

At this rate though I might just drop the DIR-655 as my routing device and just use it as a switch and access point. Then grab a DD-WRT-able router to do the actual routing and firewall duties.

Well I just updated to the latest one (yes the correct one).

However I figured out the port forward/virtual server not saving issue with the previous beta. SecureSpot needs to stay enabled for some profound reason. When it's enabled, all my settings stay. Hopefully SecureSpot doesn't go all whack on me though since my account on the site is inactive (since I clicked to do so) and there's apparently no way to re-activate it.

I really wish I could just leave SecureSpot disabled and not loose any functionality. I'm not exactly confident in it and the couple times I tried to use it, it was alarmingly slow and rarely responded. I change my LAN IP though and SecureSpot only seems capable of understanding 192.168.0.1 which was another issue which I'm hoping now works in my benefit since none of those settings on there will do anything.

So to be honest, I don't really see any changes with this. I have enabled DNS Relay though to see if that works now. Never really used UPnP so that's not a big issue to me, but it's enabled.

Well if I disable SecureSpot, then yes all my settings won't save after rebooting.

Likewise, the settings I did with SecureSpot on stay permanent even once I disable SeucreSpot. However if I'm to add anything while SecureSpot is disabled, it will not save after rebooting.

Did you try:
Disable secure spot
Disconnect WAN port
Reset router via reset button to factory default
Disable secure spot if enabled after reboot
configure the router basically (incl Portforwarding)
reconnect WAN Port

Never used secure spot but had initially problems with this setting. Now it seems to have no affect anymore.

Haven't tried disconnecting the WAN port before resetting. Haven't heard about that until now either otherwise I probably would have a while ago. Since things have been working fine so far, I'll just leave it for now. If something else messes up, then I'll give that a shot.

It's not a bug. A bug is constant and effects everyone or at least a large portion of users.
I am simply interested in his Securespot status and what browser he is using to configure the router.
