Wireless not working, LAN is ok
« on: July 28, 2014, 08:45:07 AM »

Hi there!

Need help with my router DIR-600. Its wireless connection won't work. Each time I connect to the Internet using LAN cable, everything just works fine. I'm currently connected via LAN now as I make this new topic.

Here are the details of my device:

Model DIR-600
Hardware Ver B2
Firmware Ver 2.05
Location: Asia/Philippines

What seems to cause the problem? By the way, I pressed the reset button of my device earlier in the hope that I could reconfigure its settings via web. But can't find the emulator URL for my H/W and F/W versions.  ???

Is there a way that I can reconfigure the setting via Web? I think I've lost the Wizard in CD format. And I can't use it since I'm using Macbook Air, anyway.

Been trying so hard to find solution on the web but to no avail. Please help!

Thanks so much in advance!:)

Link>Welcome!

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions. Try channel 48 or 149 on 5Ghz.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
  • If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, Extra Wireless Protection and HT 20/40 Co-existence if you have it. Also testing with HT20/40Mhz Co-existence enabled will impact results as well. I prefer to use this option OFF. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

Yes you can configure the router via the routers web page at 192.168.0.1

PC Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Hi, thanks much for the prompt response!

WIRELESS CONFIGURATIONS
The devices that used to connect to our home wifi are iPhone, Android Samsung phone, Macbook air and Nexus 7. But we only connect max of two devices at the same time. Online activities were limited to web browsing.

I don't live in a congested area. In fact, my iphone could only detect my dlink router.

ROUTER PLACEMENT
The router is placed in our living room with no other devices close to it except the landline telephone.

PC WEB BROWSER CONFIGURATIONS

I forgot to mention in my first post that I've been trying to access 192.168.0.1 to configure the settings online, but I've been unsuccessful.  :( I'm using both Chrome and Firefox.

I turned off the 4 features on Chrome as you recommended, but I still end up with "No data received" message. With FF, here's the message I get:
"The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

Hear from you again!

What are the IP addresses any one of the connected devices getting from the router? 192.168.0.#?

PC 3rd Party Security Software Configurations
  • Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
  • Turn off all devices accept for one wired LAN PC while testing.
  • Disable any downloading client software managers, i.e. Torrents or similar.

My computer is getting a different router IP address, not the 192.168.0.# number series - if that's what you meant.

Also, my Mac has its firewall turned off, as well as all other devices in my possession now.

I have no torrent or similar downloading client software installed.

Thanks!

What is the IP address when connected to the 600?

How is the 600 connected to the ISP modem?

ISP modem>DIR-600<wireless>wireless devices connected to the 600 router?

What is the Mfr and model # of the ISP modem?

DHCP IP Address: 192.168.0.102

I found the above through my iPhone when I joined back to the dlink wifi.

ISP modem manufacturer is ZyXEL Comms Corp.
Model No: P-660R-D1

You should be able to connect to the routers web page with any wireless device however some wireless device may not display the page or support some web pages. You can connect to the router with a wired PC device?

Be aware that your ISP modem is a router already unless it's bridged.
  • If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
