SEAGATE 6TB DESKTOP DRIVES

I just tested these 6TB drives in my DNS-320 A-1 firmware version 2.03.  The drives seem to work fine formatted as JBOD and RAID 0.  After each format I transfered about 30GB of video files and streamed them back to my tv without any issue.  You get just shy of 11 TB of usable space in either format.  I have been courious about these drives for the obvious space bump and was hoping Dlink would just buy a couple and test them on their various NAS devices, but apparently they couldn't afford them and must not be liked by SEAGATE enough to get a couple of their demo versions.  Unfortunate, but now you have some evidence you can bump the capacity of these units.  Hope it helps some.
UPDATE: I did the same test after reformating to RAID 1 and got the same successful results as in the previous tests.  I would report then that these SEAGATE RETAIL DESKTOP 6TB DRIVES are compatible with the DNS-320 A1 with firmware 2.03.

Hi cable2, 

I assume they would also work in RAID 1 which is our preferred usage, disks do drop dead for no logical reason and when you are storing company data you need to keep going even when you have daily backups.

I will say thank you for doing the tests and put the information on our storage DB.  It might save a client having to buy an extra NAS at some time.

Hello Ivan,
My best guess is that these drives would also work in Raid 1 and as Standard drives.  I have no "mission critical" things going on in my life these days and after having some data corruption / loss on a Raid 1 system, I stopped using them.  The stuff that I do generate on a daily basis is backed up to 2 other devices including one at a remote location, sometimes more than once a day.  I trust this and feel more comfortable a long with regular S.M.A.R.T tests and the occasional run of Scan Disk plus I have more storage capacity.  When I get finished doing the some testing on a few more different brand of NAS's, I will return to do a Raid 1 format but I am not going to any long term or stress testing or failure testing to see if the Raid 1 rebuilds.  I will post the results though for whoever's benefit.  Take care.
