vpn problems

I have a DIR-655 router, and dap-1522 access point. Occasionally, I have trouble connecting to my work VPN. Everything else works fine, computers connect to the internet, xbox 360/ps3 connects to live without any issues. The IT guy is talking about making sure that WAP software has the latest updates. I bought the dap-1522 a month ago. Does anybody have any idea on how to resolve this?
