DWR-921 Firmware
« on: August 28, 2014, 09:25:31 AM »

Is there a problem with the firmware on the D-link website?

I have tried to load the latest firmware for my DWR-921 and the router just hung. I  now get a Jon recovery system web page come up. It asks for the firmware file but it then just comes up error after trying to upload it. My unit is revision B1 original firmware v2.00 and the firmware I have tried is;

ftp://ftp.dlink.eu/Products/dwr/dwr-921/driver_software/DWR-921_fw_revB1_2-00b05_all_en_140102.zip

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

Was the file contents extracted from the .zip file before updating?

PC Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Please follow this for doing any FW updates:
FW Update Process

Try this if you have to Recover the router:
Emergency Recovery Mode

Use IE or FF to do the Recovery operation...Don't use Chrome.

Hi Thanks,

IE11, just tried FF but didn't work.

The router is already in emergency recovery mode.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Yes.

ps, one thing I have noticed is the date of the firmware on http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/product/dwr-921-4g-lte-router?revision=deu_revb
doesn't match up with the date in the firmware file

This afternoon I went to another computer, re-downloaded the firmware and tried installing it again and thankfully it has worked.

One suggestion I would make is that the router does not show the actual firmware installed- it only shows 2.00 and nothing else other than a date. So the website should show the actual firmware date and not the date it was put on the website.

Glad you got it working. Any noticeable differences between the two PCs?

Ya in a perfect world dates would be matching. There any variables that effect how things are done between the files and web placement and which is something we don't handle here.

I was just wondering if it didn't update the first time because I was putting the same firmware on that was already on. I had looked at the router and it just said 2.00 and the download was 2.00b005 as the date on the website was later than the date on the router I didn't look any further. It is only now I have noticed the router only shows the 2.00.

The first PC is a dell laptop on windows 7 32bit the second a home made tower running windows 7 64bit. Both run the same antivirus and the latest IE. I left the router totally disconnected overnight- perhaps that helped?

Ya, may times the date one the web site is the actual publishing posted date and not the date code put with in the FW date.   ::) The B# will not be displayed usually.

Might be some IE settings in between the two PCs. Possible that leaving it over night could have.

Well hope this will help others in need of similar issues.

I recommend that after you get it all set up and configured, do a save router configuration to file for safe keeping and always follow the FW Update process for doing any FW updates.
