Dlink DI-604 and 60mbps
« on: August 29, 2014, 06:09:32 PM »

I just upgraded my modem from a Docsis 2 modem to a Docsis 3 modem to take advantage of my Comcast faster speeds. The old modem was capable of 30mbps. The new one can go over 300mbps.
Comcast said I should be getting about 60mbps but I'm not. As a test, I connected my computer directly to the new modem and go 69mbps! When I reconnected my Dlink DI-604 back into the mix I was back to 30mbps.
Is my Dlink router capable or not capable of handling the faster speeds?
If not, any suggestions on a router (wired) that can handle the higher speeds?
If the Dlink is capable...what settings do I need to tweak?
Thanks,
BD

Link>Welcome!

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

I presume that your DI router probably doesn't handle 300Mb speeds as it was designed and built way before 300Mb ISP speeds were available. Also your router doesn't have Gb WAN ports speed support needed like newer routers do starting with the DIR-636L and up models.

I recommend that you get into a new router:
Wireless Router Buying Guide

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and inquire about which model router is best for your ISP speeds to be sure before buying.

I have teseting several routers and all work well, however I don't have ISP speeds at 300Mb. 50/3 here.

Model router may depend on what your current needs are and any futured needs like WiFi mode support and your current ISP modem. We recommend stand alone ISP modems, not ones with built in routers.

My new cable modem is an Arris Touchstone CM820A. My current DI-604 router doesn't appear to be able to handle the new speeds that Comcast is providing.
As I said, the new tier will provide aprox. 50 to 60 mbps, but I am only getting around 30 mbps using the the current router. If I go straight form my cable modem to my computer (by passing the router) I am getting well over 60 mbps.
I am not interested at all in a wireless router.
Do you know if the Di-604 is able to handle the 60 mbps or not?
If it can, then do you or any of the other forum members know what settings I need to change to get the faster speeds?
Also, you said "I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and inquire about which model router is best for your ISP speeds to be sure before buying."
Where do I find the local number for my area to call?
Thanks

Disable any QoS on the router and test again.

I believe that DI just maybe out of date now. I recommend checking on a DIR-636L, 645, 655, 815, 826L, 836L, 850L, 855L, 860L, 865L, 868L or 880L.

Technical Support can be reached at:

1 (877) 453-5465
Multimedia Product Support
24 hours a day, 7 days a week
1 (888) 851-6464

The ISP modem supports 1000Mb connections on the LAN cable:
 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet
interface

The DI only supports 10Mb or 100Mb I think on the WAN port.

It was the DI604. I upgraded the router and now I'm getting 60mbps down and 11.5mbps up.

Thanks for the help and advise.
