DIR-600 won't connect to Internet
« on: August 30, 2014, 06:09:41 PM »

We've been using our D-Link for 2 years without problems and then it suddenly lost connection a few days ago. I tried basic troubleshooting such as rebooting the ISP LAN cable and the router; restarting the router to default; and using a LAN via the wireless router to establish initial connection but it's not working.

My broadband ISP (Smartbro) is stable when directly connected to a single PC. I also called my ISP to double check if there are connection problems and they verified there were no problems on their side. If I connect the ISP LAN cable to the router I don't get any signal (no Internet access).

How do I resolve this?

  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

I would try this and reload FW:
FW Update Process
Don't reload any saved configuration files after the last reset...

Please I need help, I also have a dir-600 router but about a week ago stopped working, this is the second router of the house (just for the second floor where wi-fi has low signal), however the network light, the one with the globe, is blinking in a color orange, now the first thing I did was to re-do the network cable so  I cut the utp cable and yada yada, tried it on my laptop and I browse the internet without a problem but when I return to connect it to the network socket, still the orange light is blinking. Later  I tried with the short blue cable that comes with the router and had absolutly no problem and the light turned green.

Now, I dont know if the utp cable was mis-made, if something else happened or what happened. Please I need assistance  :(

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
