Possibility of making wireless?
« on: September 01, 2014, 01:47:11 PM »

Hi

I'm new to the forum, i've had my DNS-320 for well over a year, but it's not turned on. I live with my parents and my router just so happens to be in the living room, my parents aren't keen on the noise the fan makes, and they say it disturbs them.

Is there a way to make this thing wireless? so I can have it in my bedroom but it connect to the network through wifi? I found this http://www.ballicom.co.uk/akwfs01-akasa-cirro-s-wifi-storage-sharer.p1000181.html?ref=PLA&gclid=Cj0KEQjwspCgBRCiwOjBxeCcm-kBEiQAooz6t8-IsZfUZ3BKb977QqHl4MKu3peXT_jIAiGuCOmx4KQaAquC8P8HAQ

If this is not possible can anyone point me in the right direction to a wireless nas? (preferably one I can use the 2TB HDD's with)

Thanks in advance.

You have two options open to you:

1) a wireless bridge unit see http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50738.0 for more information and the types of unit

2) a pair of powerline network adapters would also do the same job.

You need to decide which to use considering that with everything on wireless transfer speed can become a problem and you might require power socket passthrough on the adapters (example TP-Link TL-PA500P kit, (2 units may be a little old now)).
