DIR-825 internet drops out/disconnected every 30 mins
« on: June 22, 2009, 10:10:47 AM »

Router has worked fine now for about 5 or 6 months.

Past two weeks or so I started having problems with the internet connection being momentarily disrupted right at about every 30 mins. I know it's the router by testing a connection straight to modem without any dropouts. Am currently working with email support to figure out what's wrong.

Anyone else in here ever heard of a similar issue?

I've tried various things to see if it's because of too much usage or perhaps coming from a single pc or other source but still no good.

Thought also it might be overheating, lowered signal broadcast strength and got a fan to keep it cooled down but still the same.

Did a hard reset... nothing.

I'm about to update firmware but that seems too risky given the problems it's causing. May try it anyway to see if it makes a difference.

Please help. -Thanks

P.S. Shareport connection and LAN seems to not be affected with this issue.

This was a very common problem with DI-624 wireless routers.  The cause was due to heat.  With those units, the problem could be minimized by operating them horizontally.  I went through three units before deciding to switch to a different brand of router.  I doubt D-Link tech support will be forthcoming about heat-related performance issues.  Google "DI-624 drop connection".  Good luck.

Thanks for that. I've googled that subject and tried changing some of the settings.

Still cutting out...  :-\

Are there any system logs in there that might tell me anything? Tho, I'd have no idea how to interpret them.

Still waiting for a 2nd follow up from dlink email support ::)

In case you missed this possibility (Symantec EndPoint).

I think I Finally figured out what the problem was for my specific setup and fixed it!!
It was a PS3 on the network causing the router to briefly reset its signal, I turned off the media server option within the PS3 and everything seems to be working fine now  :D

Wow, I would have never looked at the Media Server option, but I'm hoping this solves my problem! I actually only became aware of the problem while playing online games with my PS3. About every 30min my connection drops horribly and will log me out of the Playstation Network.

It took me like 6 months of problems, And the way I found finally is that I realized that every time it happened my roommate was playing his PS3. So good luck :)
