Setup for PS4/PSN?
« on: November 02, 2014, 08:08:05 AM »

Hello,

I just ordered the DGL-5500(upgrading from a DGL-4500) and I was wondering what are the recommended settings for setting this up to use with my PS4? I plan on following the portforwarding guides here http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DGL-5500/PlayStation_4.htm abd here http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DGL-5500/PlayStation_Network.htm

I was wondering if there was anything else I need to change in the router once I get it.

Thanks!

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

I recommend not upgrading the routers FW right out of the box. Set it up first and see how it works out of the box.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?

I recommend setting up the router using default settings with the PS console to see if the PS services work with out doing any PF rules.

This is also based on your feedback about your ISP modem and services...

I live in Michigan, USA. For my DGL-4500 I followed the Gamefuel guide that was posted on here for the PS3/PSN.

I have a local IPS for my internet. They use a wireless system from Ubiquiti, NanoBeam 5M. There is a 100ft tower in my yard and I'm hardwired to the tower. They have me on a static IP. My speeds are basically 5 up and 5 down.

The GF guide for the 4500 doesn't apply for the 5500...

Just see how it goes out of the box...

As long as your getting a public IP (##.##.###.###) address from the ISP, you should be good.

It's working great. I didn't have to forward any ports I got a NAT type 2 right out of the box. I put my PS4 in the DMZ just to make sure I don't run into any problems. One thing I do have a question on is, when I run a speed test on the PS4 it uses my full download but, it seems to cut my upload in half.  Do you think that's just have Sony has their network setup or is there a setting I could try to change on the router?

Well, if you put the PS4 in the DMZ, you wont be using the SB features...I'd test with the PS4 not in the DMZ.
Are you getting full speeds with a wired PC?

Yep, I get full speeds with my desktop PC. Just when I run the PS4's built in speed test I get my full download and just the upload is cut in half. It's weird. I'll try it taking my PS4 out of DMZ.

EDIT:

Here is a speed test result on my PC:

And on my PS4(not in DMZ):

I have another quick question. Should Enable SPI and Enable Anti-Spoof checking be on or off?

SPI can be enabled and should be for security and blocking hackers and such. Test weather to see if Anti Spoof Check is needed or not.
