Motion detection stopped triggering events
« on: November 13, 2014, 11:54:45 AM »

I've been using motion events (PIR & Motion) to trigger a send email alert and that was working fine until it just stopped working. I use the test button and the email is sent correctly so it doesn't have to do with email settings. I also tried to change the from and to addresses but still it only works with test but never with motion. I used to get one email every few minutes and now none in weeks.

I tried to clear the settings and recreate them (all of them, including motion and email settings). I also tried to reflash the latest FW (1.22 for Rev. A). Nothing can make it work again. Please let me know what I should do next.

Another hint:
I try to move the camera from within the browser setup and during movement I see the motion icon blinking. That always used to trigger an email alert but not now. I have 2 more cameras with exactly same settings which still send emails.

What host WiFi router Mfr and model do you have?
Has anything changed the the ISP or router side of the service?

If it was working then now it's not, something has changed on the WiFi, configuration or ISP services maybe...

Allow me to disagree. As I said, manual TEST allows the message to arrive correctly. If any of what you mention mattered then that test message would't go through either. It has to do with the motion detection functionality and I assume that could be either software or hardware and that's what I need help with.

Was a factory reset performed before and after updating FW, then set up from scratch?

No, I didn't perform a factory reset as I wanted to avoid reconfiguration and that's why I posted here. However, I would be willing to do that if I knew it will solve the issue. If no other solution is offered I will try that as well.

BTW, another info that evaluates that the probles lyes in the motion detection and not in the email procedure is that at the time that emails stopped to be sent, local recording on sd card also stopped so it's totally irrelevant to other factors. It's clearly device issue.

Do you believe a factory reset and re-setup would solve this?

I would find it hard to believe that both motion detection and pir would fail at the same time. Does the log show motion or pir activating?

I just checked. The only entries I have in log is about time sync and client video streaming. Nothing about motion detected.

I have performed factory reset and setup again and it still fails. In fact all actions seem to not work. I tried with sound as well and none will trigger the event. No entries for activity in log either and no recording on sd either. Everything was working 3 weeks ago without change.

Is there any official DLink support channel I could forward this issue before sending this useless camera to recycling? I have Chinese unbranded cameras working much more efficiently than DLink and such issues are inacceptable for that price. At least DLink (if any representative is listening here) should be selling their products at a price similar to cheap china replica toys since such is their quality. Nobody can convince me that I have a misconfiguration or network issue here, but I have proved that it is an issue of inefficiency and unreliability. I want to hear from DLink here. Tomorrow this camera goes into my dustbin together with other garbage and another Chinese UCAM247 is taking its place. I have 3 of them and none of them has ever caused me any similar issue. This is the 2nd DLink camera that fails.

Yes, I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Thanks for all the help by the way. I don't know if I will succeed in this as I bought the camera from Amazon and I live in another country so that will be hard I guess.

Ask your regional office to see. This may have been a problem as if the model you pick from Amazon, could be that it's not designed or supported in your region.
