FTP Server problems in passive mode
« on: January 08, 2015, 05:26:55 AM »

Hi,

I am experiencing issues with the ftp server of a new DNS-327L.

My FTP server is set to report the external (public) ip of the router it is attached to, therefore when making a transfer in passive mode the NAS provides the public IP to the client just before a directory listing can appear in the clients view.

As I do not have a static IP I use DLink's dynamic dns which works exceptionally well and I have no issues connecting to or authenticating with the server.

My problems are caused because the FTP server cannot keep track of the public ip when it changes, therefore it reports and outdated public IP and the connection is dropped. If I enter into the FTP server config through the web interface I have the option to manually click the "get external ip" button which then causes a 500 internal error that appears in the first block of the ip address.

I can manually enter the IP address and all works ok until the IP is again changed by my isp. I usually find out when I want to transmit some data remotely and it fails again.

If anyone can provide any suggestions or advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
