Topic: Problems with mouse and main computer while downloading games on Xbox (Read 6069 times)

I just bought a DIR-655, everything is fine. I have a Wii, a Xbox 360 and and second computer connected by a wire on the second port.

With the Xbox 360 and the Wii, the connections are great.

Now, this is where the problem is, I downloaded a game demo (more or less 700 megs) and when I was surfing on the web using the computer where the router is connected on (Using Windows Vista Home Premium), the optical logitech mouse was going nuts, I could not control it. When the game was downloaded, everything was back to normal.

Also, I noticed that my ISP connection (Cogeco) is a little bit slower.. It takes more time to log on the mail server and tell me that there is no message, with my previous router, a WRT54G, it was way more faster, I almost didn't have time to see the "no new message" display..

Any ideas guys? Thanks..

Your NIC in your PC is causing a high CPU load. No router related issue for sure.

You might want to give your PC specs. But there is no way the router has any part in this.

The thing is, I had a previous router, it was a WRT54G and I never had this problem before. While downloading the file on the Xbox 360, my main computer connected to the router, was going crazy. The mouse was going all around the screen, I could not control it, and my system even hang. I had to reboot.

Thanks. I would be the first time ever (20+ years...)to see a router messing up a PC like that.

Try deleting and reinstalling your wireless drivers or do a TCPIP stack renewal. What other changes were made on the laptop? Have a firewall running ?

No firewall and I have disabled the AVG virus scan.

Maybe you are right, the integrated wireless adapter on my HP system might be the problem, I'll disable it and see if it makes a difference.. I will let you know. That's a nice start.. Thanks!

*Update* It didn't make a difference, but I changed the QoS for my Xbox 360 to 100 and the problem is less severe.. Anyway, it's not like it's going to make a big difference because I do not download games everyday and my other computer is connected with a wire on port 2. But it's a very strange problem and I have to admit it's also the first time I see this..

But you know what? You solved another problem, now my connection with my ISP is back to normal and it's even faster.. Disabling the wireless adapter solved it.. You are a God send..

The mouse is cordless.....right. I noticed when I performed bandwidth tests, i.e. large downloads between two PCs and was near max throughput 80-100mbp, my wireless mouse would go nuts. I believe it was the interference in 2.4 ghz band, which is the same frequency useles by some wireless mice. I just switched over to a wired mouse.

You are right.. But I don't think I can go back to a wired mouse.. lol. Too many years enjoying a wireless mouse
