Hi All,
Is the D-Link DCS-934L camera PoE (Power over Ethernet) capable? Since I have not seen anything in the User Guide calling it out, my guess is "no" it does not. But I could be wrong. Thanks in advance for any info!

We can presume if PoE isn't listed anywhere in the specs, it would not be supporting.

Call and ask D-Link sales on which model does if there is one.

D-Link typically adds the word "PoE" in the name of camera models supporting power over Ethernet.

You could investigate future at dlink website user manual.

The Groupon is what led me here asking about it. I have reviewed the user documentation but again it makes no mention that PoE is supported on it. I'll try to follow-up with D-Link at some point today. Strange to think that here in 2015, a lot of devices that use both Ethernet and power don't come with PoE as a standard. Oh well....I report back once I have the "Official" word from D-Link.

The DCS-934L is the successor to the DCS-932L/933L, neither of which supports PoE. This latest camera appears to be an upgraded version of the same product line. PoE is available on other D-Link camera models.

**UPDATE**
Yeah so it has been confirmed by D-Link Tech Support, No PoE on these Camera's. Also I find that the provided power cable is only like five and a half feet long, it should be more like seven to ten feet long in my opinion. Oh well. Has anyone done (or know) if a custom CAT5e cable can be made? (For that one cable solution) What I mean is taking a CAT5e cable and terminating pins 1&2 and 3&6 (White/Orange and White/Green Pairs) on an RJ45 jack for the data (Camera), and separating the White/Blue and White/Brown Pairs and terminating that on a plug for power for the camera? A very custom cable indeed, but one wonders if that may work?

I can only presume attempting to apply PoE signals over a LAN connection to these model cameras would only cause irreparable damage and would not be advised to do so.

Technically you could however the power line may introduce noise on the line or vs versa. I recommend keeping them separate.

Thanks for your input, I'm I wrong in thinking that since PoE typically delivers 5v output and this AC adapter delivers 5v output that what we're talking about here is kind of a non-issue. Just saying how would that be different with the same voltage going through a CAT5e to a device that uses PoE?

Possible it could be a non issue however the handling of voltages over PoE vs your method could have some differences. Overall seems like a hassle to use your method rather then getting a PoE supported camera if your network supports PoE. You have to have PoE supporting networking HW as well as the camera I believe.
