Id remove that PC from the list or being configured for any sort of blocking.

I don't understand . . . what 'list' are you talking about?  If I remove the BentoPC policy, then it would be blocked along with all the Other Machines.

If you remove the PC from all configurations in Access Control, the PC should not be blocked...

then what does the Other Machines specification mean?  I assumed it meant any PC/machine without a policy?  If I removed the BentoPC policy (like I understand your suggestion to mean) then I would only guess it would block access on BentoPC when the Block All Access * Other Machines policy is enabled.

Hi - haven't visited this for a while - did you give up on me or the DIR-655 router?  I'd just be interested if anyone has tried to use this router to do what I'm trying; is it even supposed to work like I'm trying to make it do?  OTW, does anyone have a suggestion for managing, say, 10 devices, having several that stay connected to the internet ALL THE TIME, and some that lose their connection during the night hours.  This seems like a fairly common and simple concept (at least for anyone with kids) - should be something out there.  Thanks  . . ..

I'm currently testing out a DIR-865L w some access controls. The UI is similar. Only thing I've set up is 2 schedules and 2 policies for one device each and there pointed to one of the schedules each. I did remember that I had to enable DNS Relay or the controls won't work. Once I did that, the controls are working. You can follow it here:

I presume setting up your router would be the same. I don't know how many controls or devices you can mange though. It maybe limited...

You could consider using parental controls on any Windows devices instead. Maybe you could get a few off of the router controls.

Hi - I read the link from FurryNutz - but it doesn't seem to address a situation where I want to specify certain machines to never be restricted access, and all other machines to be restricted at certain times.

I have used Parental Controls in Windows and it works for the PC's - just not the iPhones and other tablets.

Thanks again for your suggestions - but I'm still looking for the answer . . .

If you have PCs that don't need any control access or restriction, then those don't need to be added honestly. Just leave them out of the equation. Work with the devices that need restriction policies only...

What you say makes sense, but here's why I'm interested in using the Other Machines option for restricting . . . sometimes the kids have their friends over; I'd just as soon have their devices go off at the 9:30 shut down time as well.  So, instead of having to look up their MAC address and enter a separate policy, I'd just like to say "Mom's computer never gets shut down (Never * Block All Access), all Other Machines * Block All Access * at 9:30".  Two policies - done. But, again, when I enable these policies as stated, at 9:30 everyone gets blocked.

Currently, I'm basically doing what you say - I have 6 policies, one for each of the kids' devices to shut down at 9:30,which seems to work - just wishing it was more general.

For PCs that don't need any blocking. Just don't add them. Only add devices that need blocking.

You'll need to collect the MACs for the guest devices that come over so you can correctly add them for blocking as well.

I notice you keep avoiding the concept of "Other Machines" . . . I don't really like to have to remember to check to see if I've already added a policy for the kids' friends' devices - I'm thinking years down the road - new friends, new devices, have they been added or not . . . it's all very tiring.  :-\  And obviously a first-world problem.
