Hi,
New here, just received my DIR-880L from Dell today. Wanted to pipe in and will see what happens with this QOS issue, but wanted to mention my first day experience.
I'm not running a large number of devices at once, just one Win 8.1 laptop, a couple of MacBooks, couple of smart phones (iPhone & BB), a android tablet, couple of printers, and have my TV and Blu-Ray box hard wired.
Decided to rewire everything I had hard wired from Cat5e to Cat6a, set up the router, and tested with my new Dell. I have Comcast blast service which gets 125Mbps. Wired I was getting the promised 125mbps. With my old N300 router on wireless I would get 15Mbps to 40Mbps on a good day. This afternoon on the 880L on 5Ghz I was getting 119Mbps to 124Mbs!
After my wife got home I set up her iPhone and MacBook for the new router, and with everything wireless in the house on I set up QOS. Now that everyone is in bed I was playing more with the configuration of the router, registered the router, joined this forum...etc. When I went to run speedtest again I noticed my 5Ghz giving me only 67Mbps to 83Mbps (lower end after I did a modem and router reboot). No crashes or reboots, just a lower speed.
After reading this thread I took my highest device (the Dell) off of QOS and speed tested with the same results (75Mbps give or take a few). I took everything else off of QOS and now I back to getting 119Mbps to 124Mbs....
So, I'm not sure if I would benefit much from using QOS, but it looks like I was suffering with it. Like I said, I'll keep an eye and see if there is a solution. Oh and yes I updated to the latest firmware right after setup, while I was still hard wired to the router.
