DSL-2750U - Cannot connect to Diskstation on Ethernet port
« on: April 11, 2015, 09:42:53 PM »

Hi,
due to bad DSL performance I have migrated from an ASUS DSL-modem&router to D-LINK DSL-2750U (updated firmware to ME_1.03).

Wifi is working fine and DSL performance has improved (yeah!). But: I cannot reach my Synology Diskstation file server connected on the Ethernet ports. Itīs set up for DHCP and I have reset the network settings etc. on the Diskstation - all without success.  And if i go back to the Asus router I can immediately connect again so itīs a clearn router issue.

It appears as if the device connected on the Ethernet port is completely invisible, canīt ping, canīt connect via webinterface, canīt find via the Synology installation assistant that scans the network. Iīve downloaded and installed 2 network scanners on my Mac -> diskstation doesnīt show up...

Strangely enough: the diskstation appears in the list of DHCP clients (Status / DHCP Clients) and gets assigned an IP address! I have also tried to give it a fixed one, no success. Router LED shows green light for connection and also Diskstation LAN status is green.

Setup / Network / "Configure the second IP Address and Subnet Mask for LAN" is disabled (was enabled by default, thought I had it but no success either)

Any help appreciated, I really need that file server and would hate to go back to my crappy Asus DSL connection :(

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your modem? Look at the sticker under modem.
  • What region are you located?

Is there any Samba or Storage features that need to be enabled on the modem?

How about try a external network switch to connect this Diskstation to then connect your PC and the Modems LAN port to the switch...

Seems like there many a configuration issue here...

Itīs clearly a router and not a server issue - but I solved it with a crutch:

Wireless connection anything -> D-Link Router -> Synology Diskstation   doesnīt work
Wired connection PC -> D-Link Router -> Synology Diskstation    ah! it works!!!

I used this connection to set up a wireless dongle on the diskstation and join the router's wireless network once I had a connection running.

Now I can connect from wireless to diskstation wireless but not wireless <->wired interfaces.

So it seems the router blocks connections between the wired ports and the wifi, even though they are on the same network settings.

Any idea where I can change that? I have not found any corresponding settings in the router interface.

Is there any feature like WLAN Partition on this modem? This could be one thing that could prevent a connection between wireless clients...

Maybe set up a static IP address out side the modems default DHCP IP address pool ON the device, and not a reserved IP address.

WLAN partition was the key word to google for:

http://superuser.com/questions/495067/combine-wlan-with-lan

You have to disable MultiAP Isolation in the settings which was enabled by default and without further explanation / without even appearing in the router help files (which I had checked...).
