Hi guys,

I am using this dns-323 since 2007 and one day, one of my 500gb HDD was dead, currenly I am using RAID 1. 
Here is the question,

1.) Do i have to replace the dead HDD with exactly 500GB HDD, or I can go for bigger size?
2.) Since I have RAID 1 data inside my dns-323, let say if I put 1TB HDD, Does it read one HDD 500GB and the other 1TB or it will format to 500GB?

1)  It must be 500GB or larger otherwise the RAID 1 array can't be rebuilt.

2)  If you replace the disk with a 1TB disk then your 500GB RAID 1 array will rebuild as a 500GB array and you will have 500GB to format as a standard partition which will then be Volume_2.

Depending on how full your 500GB array is you might consider replacing both drives with larger capacity ones and restoring your data from your backup.(or even the smaller disk mounted in a USB/SATA caddy - see the recovery sticky).
