How hot is too hot?
« on: July 02, 2009, 05:10:24 PM »

The manual has a screen shot showing 104F.

Im in a hot room and its showing 111F, now 118F, now 120F. Stabilizing at 120F. And now back to 118F.

Unit does not feel hot, only a little warm in the center on the top of the unit. Air is flowing out the back from the fan but it does not feel like 118F. Is this second brand new unit defective too??????

Why are there no proper intake areas for air to ensure proper air flow?

The default thermal threshold is 140. Yet if you change it to Celsius it remains defaulted at 140! Thats definitely too hot....

I recently replaced a broken 321 with a new one. Powered it on second day, was browsing some files, and about 3 minutes later the unit just shut off. Are there no logs or anything that the 321 keeps?

I think that your temps are fine.  Ambient temperature probably has a large impact on the system temperatures you are seeing.  Right now mine has been idle for a while and is running 113F/45C in an 85F closet.  I would expect much lower temperatures in an air conditioned equipment closet.  Search for one of my previous posts, I compared temps with the cover closed, opened a little and completely off.

I leave the cover opened up just a bit (enough that the power button and LED diffusers work properly)...it lowers the temps a few degrees but still looks buttoned up (on a low shelf of a cluttered rack  :)).
