All,
I am in the process of upgrading my DIR825 dual band router and DAP 1522 Access point setup in my house. Current setup is DIR 880L router with both 2.4 and 5 Gz bands; one DAP 1650 setup as extender and AP; one DAP 1522 (waiting to be upgraded to DAP 1650) still being used as AP. Both APs use 5GZ band SSID I use. All working fine normally.

The problem:
When my son is home, and we turn on Xbox live and other devices in the basement (which I think in increasing the number of connected 5gz clients), after a few minutes the home network on 5GZ goes dead; just stops working. however, the 2.4 GZ network continues to work. The only option is to reboot the main router; after reboot they work for some time and then same problem (5gz ssid block) occurs. Temporarily I have set the basement to use 2.4 gz band; but I would like to use the 5gz for all these streaming devices.

Is there a limit on number of 5gz clients that can be connected simultaneously? I am not aware of such a limit but this occurs only when my son is home, meaning the general number of devices on the home network increases by 3 -5.

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.

• What region are you located?

Are the DAPs connected to the 880L and extending the 5Ghz radio or running as stand alone APs? If Stand alone, are the DAPs using the same SSID name and channels?

Seems like there maybe some bandwidth and connectivity issues going on with the 5ghz radio.

Do this happen if you turn OFF all DAPs and just leave the 880L radios going?

Is there a DAP int he basement where your son is located that he can connect too?

The router H/W version is A 1. Firmware is 1.03WW. I am located in the Northern Virginia area in US.

As mentioned in the original post, the DAP 1650 is used in Extender mode as both range extender and access point. The DAP 1522 is used only as an access point.

The DAPs are using the same SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 GZ bands. If I turn off the DAPs then this problem does not happen.

Ok so of this isn't happening if you turn OFF the DAPs, then this means that when you DAPs are ON and in AP mode, they maybe using the same channel as the 890Ls channel on 5Ghz. If your going to run DAPs in AP mode on either frequency, the channels need to be different between each radio. So if the 890L is running 36 or 49, try setting the DAP on 149 or 165. Farther away channel wise is recommended. You can run the same SSID names. I recommend trying 1 DAP wired to the 890L and set it downstairs and ensure the channels differ between the 890L and DAP.
