More information required.

Copying to or from the DNS-320?
What are you using to do the copy?
How is the DNS-320 setup?
How is your network setup?

What Mac OS are you using?
Does this happen using a different Mac PC?

When is the DNS being turned off? I presume after you have copied files?
Can the DNS be left on?

sanatic, you state that you have no problem transferring files (zips) between your NAS and a windows computer, is that correct?

You also have not said how you are trying to transfer the files (zips) to/from your Mac.  Are you using SAMBA or some other protocol and is it setup correctly on your Mac?

The other thing you must be sure that there is no power failure at the NAS and Mac while the file transfer is taking place.  If there is the file will be corrupted and give you the error message you are seeing.
