I bought this camera at Costco on an impulse - I have a city garden backyard that I would monitor through one of my windows. There is only a 7 foot fence keeping the neighbourhood crackheads and dumpster divers at bay. (I've caught them trying to climb my fence on several occasions - until I added some fence spikes I bought on Amazon from overseas)

I'm fairly technically savvy and I've always managed to configure anything I've brought home (eventually).

This Camera was a nightmare...

I can't believe that forum isn't swamped with requests for answers and solutions on how to get Java working. I couldn't get ONE Browser to use the Java Run Time Environment (Safari, Chrome, Firefox and IE) I have a Mac, PC, iPhone and iPad. So half of the functionality is completely lost from the start. Even searches on this forum brought up hints and suggestions that are incomplete or don't work. Some suggested putting the Camera's IP on an 'allow' list...I couldn't find a single post for someone trying to find their camera IP.

I COULD register the camera and connect it to my wireless network, access it from my iPhone iPad etc. As soon as I unplugged the camera to move it to a place where it would do some actual surveillance or across the room - I lost all video streaming capability. I live in an open concept loft - we're talking 15 feet away and the camera lost all connectivity from the router. It would only work after I plugged it back into the router with Ethernet cable, got the camera recognised, then unplugged the Ethernet cable again. The camera only seems to work when sitting about 3 feet from the router. I left it overnight, it lost connectivity by the morning. It's now packed up and ready to be returned.

SO.... my main two issues are:

1.) I can't get Java running - so the Browser interface doesn't function at all - that means I can't record video, use the cloud account etc.
2.) After I test the camera with my phone, as soon as I unplug it and move it up to 10 feet away, it loses WIFI connectivity and it can't be restored until the camera is hard plugged back into the router with the Ethernet cable.

Do these issues sound normal? Am I a complete tech newb? How are people not returning these in droves? Are they using old computers with out of date browsers?

• What region are you located?

You may need to fully remove Java from your PC then do a full re-install of the SW.
What OS platform are you using?
What version of FW is loaded on the camera?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?

 A quick workaround is to enable developer mode (F12), go to the button icon on the right (Emulation) and select "Internet Explorer 10" instead of "Edge" on Document Mode.
Be sure to clear out any and all browser caches as well.

I don't have the same camera model however my DCS-933L is working on the latest Java version on my OSX and Windows 7 platforms.

Anyways sounds like you never had wifi working in the first place.

What router do you have?

I'm still on java 7,so no issues here.
Anyways don't need it really.

Do you have upnp enabled?

I thought that rant would get blocked my moderators for sure. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, using a very recent version of Chrome (for some reason IE doesn't work on my machine) I loaded Firefox... I'm in Toronto...the router is from Bell and fairly new. I'll post the specs in a couple of hours. I  got  Wifi working...in a very limited capacity ( and as I said, 3 ft from the router)

It's packed up - just I only go to Costco one a month so it'll be around for a while - I really appreciate the responses - I would be overjoyed to not have to give up on this - Instand up to the challenge!..... Also I really don't want to get on the DropCam cloud storage scam.

I take it I enable up np on the router?

Sounds like a configuration issue to me...

uPnP and uPnP Port Forward should be enabled.

I removed all previous versions of Java
I got Java running on Firefox (most recent version)
I got on the router and ensured that  upnp was enabled
Port forwarding was set up with HTTPS, TCP, 443, Camera IP, 443
I finally got the Browser View working
I tried upgrading the firmware on the camera but the file downloaded was corrupted some how
The camera was visible on the browser and the phone/tablet
unplugged the ethernet cable - everything still works
powered off the camera (3 feet from the router) powered it back on
Video stream lost on the phone
Connection lost

My previous issue was getting Java working - Now the issue seems to be getting the camera to keep its configuration and be recognized after it's powered off, and presumably placed where it's intended to monitor and powered on again.

BTW: My router is a SAGEMCON F@st 2864

Ok I'll try that - when I did port forwarding on the router I lost all my shares between my Mac and My PC.
Without making a premature evaluation (which I am!) that might explain why the camera only retains it 's connection if it isn't powered off.

Any port forwarding configurations on the main host router should be removed. Only uPnP should be enabled on the router.

The firmware on the Camera is up to date
same issues when i unplug the power from the camera

I've decided to keep it... thanks for the folks here who helped me out. I had to run a long extension of ether net cable closer to where I was going to place the camera (up high on the kitchen Cabinet) with the ability to look outside. Then disconnected the Ethernet cable when I got the camera recognized ( I didn't test it again - so If I have a power outage = I might need to cable up again to reconnect the camera)...From a suggestion on this site I'm using iSpy to record motion detected activity to Google Drive.

I got another camera online for my Garden - I was originally looking on ALIExress and Alibaba  (Where full motion, night vision wireless Camera's were ridiculously inexpensive )- but inquiries incurred a  bunch of emails from China from a salesman who had checked out my username online and commented on some music I have posted - nice touch - but also a little creepy. I had no idea if this was a Phishing Scam or not - he sent me some links to his cameras that required IE to view and software to download - I backed up pretty quickly and bought something similar on Ebay Canada. It will be interesting how that fits into my existing system. I'll likely be able to configure iSpy to record the other Camera but I'm still using MyDlink to view On the phone or tablet remotely - likely it won't allow the third party Camera.
