Hi,

I've had a look through the FAQ but couldn't find anything relating to this issue, I'm hoping someone will be able to help.

I'm trying to connect my DNS-320L NAS using the PowerLine AV200 Starter Kit.  The NAS NIC interface does not light up and the AV 200 does not indicate it has recognised a device being plugged in.  If I plug my laptop into the AV200 it connects fine.  I've tried using a static IP and DHCP but the NAS still won't get recognised by the AV200.  If I plug the NAS into my laptop or Virgin SuperHub then I can see the NAS fine.  The NAS just won't connect if I plug it into the AV200.

My setup is pretty basic, just a Virgin Media SuperHub, a pair of PowerLine AV 200 adapters and the DNS-320L NAS.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Probably best if I reply on this thread too to "close off" the issue.

OK I think I found the issue.  I had set the NAS "LAN Link Speed" settings to only use 1000 (rather than Auto or 100) and it would seem that the AV 200 doesn't support this (makes sense if 200MB is the max supported speed).

So I think I may go for the PowerLine AV 1000 at some point.

I've set the NAS to auto speed and it's being picked up through the PowerLine now (albeit at a much slower speed than if it were connecting at 1000 through the router).

attaching this powerline will slow down the transfer speed by huge margin, i done that. In the end, i just use DIR-850L with Gigabit port.

using DHP-701AVs is good... my setup would be to connect the NAS to the router directly then use powerline to extend the WIFI coverage. But extending the WIFI in this manner can be tricky and the speed will be subjected to Powerline interferences and WIFI speed. After playing around, my setup became

Modem Device (Bridge mode) connect to powerline
WIFI Router (in my case DIR-850L) connect to powerline - since it is using powerline to connect to modem, you can find a suitable place that covers all corner of your house and plugin your NAS into it and get good WIFI signal at the same time.

This setup is to fully utilize all the bandwidth from the router to NAS and vice versa & to WIFI bandwidth as well (i get a whopping 20MB/s thru Notebook -> NAS thru WIFI). The bottle neck would always be internet line... so no use buying an expensive Powerline as they don't use up such bandwidth. For my case, my internet speed is just 4MB...

You always want to maximized your internal (house) speed than public usually.

The preferred way to maximize a LAN configuration with PLs might be:
ISP modem>DIR series router>external Gb LAN switch><NAS and wired PCs connected to switch
                                         >PL connected to back of router><2ndary WiFi AP connected to PL

PLs would not be idea between the ISP modem and main host router in most configurations. Traffic between the ISP modem and main host router is a crucial configuration which needs the best possible connection between them.
