Wireless N networking 5 GHz.

Hi, i have the DIR-628 router and whenever I try to switch it to 5 GHz in the router settings, the connection breaks off. The 5 GHZ light in the router turns on and starts flashing but the wireless configuration utility doesn't display my connection. This is what I did: Wireless settings: manual configuration: 802.11 band 5 GHz: Enabled auto channel scan: Transmission rate (best) automatic: Channel Width 20/40 MHz: Visibility status, visible: security mode, WPA: cipher type, AES: Group key update interval 3600. BTW, my maximum connection speed when i check my status on 2.4GHz is 300mBps. Any help would be greatly appreciated  :)

What is the adapter that you are using? 

You need to have a 5.0Ghz 11n compatible adapter before setting the DIR-628 to the 5.0Ghz radio.  The only D-Link adapter that can connect with the 5.0Ghz radio is the DWA-160 model.

I do have have wireless adapter on my laptop AtherosAR9285X which has draft n technology.

A quick check: http://www.atheros.com/pt/bulletins/AR9285Bulletin.pdf

seems to indicate that this wireless adaptee does not use the 5.0Ghz radio.  It seem to be using the 2.4Ghz radio band only.

I bought the laptop from best buy, here are the specifications

and this website claims that it does have 5 GHz feature

The Best Buy link shows it as having a 802.11b/g/draft N card (which would not be 5 GHz).  That said it also lists the name of the adapter not the chipset, so it could very well have the chipset you named.

The specifications that Acer published for this series of laptops does not state if it can do the 5.0Ghz radio band 11n.  It is possible that the laptop can only do the 2.4Ghz "standard" 11n wireless network radio band.

Also, the second web site list is not the "official" Atheros web site.  I would never "rely" on any specifications that are not from the original manufacturer's web site. (Seem my previous reply.)
