Hi Guys,

I just connected my router to auto-sensing switch (8 ports). The switch is sensing 100mbps connection instead of 1 gigabit.  My other computers have gigabit NIC card and sensed as gigabit connection on my switch. Only the connection from this router is sensed as non gigabit.

I have tried both type of cables 5E crossover and 5E straight through, but not success.

Hardware Version: A1
FW Version: 1.10

Please help.

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
• Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
• What region are you located?
• What  Mfr. and model # of the switch?
• By-pass the switch by connecting a wired LAN PC directly to check the speeds.
• Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

• What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
• What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
• Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
• What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?

THis router does 1Gb wired connection rate speeds. I have one and enjoy it.

Hardware Version: A1
FW Version: 1.10
Location: Canada
Switch : Asus GX-D1081   

On this switch, if any connection is below 1 gigabit, the port light is RED, if connection is 1 gigabit the port light is GREEN.
All my wired computer shows GREEN, except for this router.

If I by-pass the switch then how can I check the connection speed of router port  using PC.
Is there any software to test?

You can check the connecton rate in Windows...Under status for the NIC card your connecting with.

Status for the NIC shows the connection of  NIC only.  If NIC status shows 1 Gbps connection, it means that NIC is capable of gigabit only if the other end is also supporting it.

I have tested this with my switch. If I change my computer NIC speed to 100 mbps the port light on switch becomes RED. I changed back to 1 Gbps, the port light becomes GREEN. 

So the NIC STATUS is really telling you the connection capability of NIC and not of the router port.

Status shows the connection rate of the NIC to what it's connected too.

I just tested this with my Windows 7 PC on a 1Gb and 100Mb swtich and saw both values on the status windoow for the NIC.

Sometimes it can be bad brand of 5e Cables thats doing this. Have you tryed with an other cat 5e or maybe 6?
