Connection Drop
« on: July 26, 2015, 10:27:09 AM »

I own a dlink dsl 2730u modem+router. The modem keeps disconnecting from internet when left in idle state for about an hour. The diagnostic test results are in image below. WiFi and wired connections both are unable to connect to internet. It works fine after I reboot the router. I have tried restarting the router and reconfigure it manually again. But had no luck. I also called my ISP and those guys came over twice and had issue fixed for a day, and next day it was back to as it was. I am facing this issue for 3 months now. Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your modem? Look at the sticker under modem.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the modems web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have? Link> Speed Testing Sites
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values

I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For DSL or Fiber service lines, ensure that the ISP is using good working phone or cable lines to the DSL modem and that the phone lines are filtered correctly. I recommend having the ISP service physically check the lines again going from the out side to the ISP modem. The modem operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

The hardware version is: C1
Firmware Version is: IN_1.0
P/N: OSL2730UENIN.C1E
Region: INDIA
Cable: Same as received in box with the router. Works when the router is connected to internet. When connection drops, even wired connection can't access the internet.
Hardware Version:

I had called the ISP and they have already checked the line connection from router to their server. They also have reset my router twice, and configured it again. Sometimes i get this type of failure:

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. Ask to see if there is a FW update available. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I have noted that connection to dsl and to isp is not dropped, but internet stops working. The error after which internet stops working is "kernel: bcmxtmcfg: OAM loopback response not received on VCC 1.0.4 ". But it works normally after I reboot the router.

Has a factory reset been performed then set up from scratch?

Yes, factory reset has been performed so many times that I lost the count. I have performed the reset both ways i.e. by logging into router and click reset and also by holding reset button for 20 seconds. I also tried updating firmware from d'link official site, but it was no good other than adding a few features.

Can you please post link for the proper firmware for my router? There is only one version 1.00 on the official site (which I have flashed, and is a bit different than the 1.00 version I had when I had purchased the router) for my hardware, there is one other version 1.16 (it says for airtel customers only) but the information file it contained had a hardware version different than mine.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. Ask where you can get the proper version for this modem. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
