This recorder really does work very well. I have read many posts and have had some of the problems but found that if you put it on it's own network it works very well. If you think it's your router your probably wrong I have tried some of the best ASUS routers and same problems, if throwing money at it would fix it I would have fixed it months ago.

What do you mean by "its own network"?

The 322 somehow drags the whole network down, I do not no how because I look at the bandwidth in my router and it is not saturated by any means. I tried different routers from ASUS the last one being the 87u and it made no difference. I got another ASUS router (n53) nothing fancy and set it up on a different ip. I have two networks 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1 and for me it works perfect, if you want to know more please reply.

Are you using a static or Dynamic IP address. Its recommended to use a static IP address ON the DNR, say 192.168.1.22 which should be outside of your main host routers DHCP IP address pool of 192.168.1.100 thru .199?

I use static addresses on everything, I have 23 Dlink cameras 18 on the 192.168.1.1 router and 5 on the 192.168.2.1 router. The dnr is hidden away in another room for security reasons, hard wired to a ASUS router . It connects to a wireless AP in my office and then to my computer. The ASUS mother board in my computer has 2 network adapters and one is static address on the 1.1 network and the other on 2.1 static. The 192.168.2.1 has no internet access and everything is viewed with Teamviewer over the internet. I have no connect disconnect issues with the DNR with 5 cameras so I have ordered 3 more to make a total of 8 and see if I still have a system I am happy with. IP camera viewer pro is used to view the 18 cameras and works better than anything else I have tried , and I have tried alot of different software.

I'd make sure that your static IPs resides outside of the main host routers DHCP IP address pool. They should not be with in it. One possible bottle neck could be the DNR behind the AP.

The static IP is 192.168.2.239. I don't think you are following what I'm saying , the way it is setup now works perfect.

Ok. Well I was confused by you statement that the DNR somehow bring the network down. Was trying to fully understand how things were set up. If it's working for you then all is good.

Ok this is where it falls apart, I told you I was going to hook up more cameras and I did. I hooked up one dcs-932lb1 and I was lucky if I had 3 out of 6 to connect, I hooked up the 7th camera and it pretty much stopped connecting altogether. I lowered Resolution and quality to the lowest and no help. I changed it back to just 5 cameras once again at highest video settings and have no disconnect problems. What gives, this is a 5 camera recorder not a 9. Does anybody out there have this really working to the MAX or am I just wasting my time and money. Like I said in a earlier post, If MONEY WOULD FIX IT , IT WOULD BE FIXED. Any ideas , Thanks.

I'm wondering if there is a amount of how many cameras you can connect limitation. Seems like if your getting 5 connected with out issue, could be adding more maybe a problem.

What Mfr and model is the main host wifi router?

The first router was a ASUS RT-N66U cat5 to the DNR-322 , no internet connection and only 5 cameras . The cameras do not disconnect from the router. the next router was a ASUS RT-AC87U same setup same results. I am only doing intranet not internet, I just record not view. Hook up the 6th camera and you get disconnects of most cameras randomly but never disconnect from the router.

All the cameras are dlink I have been trying to get this DNR to work right for months. This is the second one, Dlink sent me a new one thinking that might help. I have a lot of Dlink cameras to try and I have tried them all in lots of configurations. 5 DCS-5029l, 1 DCS-5222l, 4 DCS-5009l, 2 DCS-5010l, 2 DCS-5020l, 3 DCS-932lb1, 3 DCS-930l and there are a few more but this is basically it. The last setup I tried was 3 DCS-930l and 3 DCS932l and it couldn't handle that combination.

As for the disconnects after graduating from 5 cameras to 6 cameras, you maybe hitting a limitation with the main host router on 2.4 Ghz having all these one band. Especially if you have other devices like PCs and phones as well. I recommend that you look into getting into a 2ndary wired access point to work in conjunction with the main host router and split up the cameras connections.

This is for my home. There is nothing else hooked to the router, the dnr and 5 wireless cameras. Most of the time not even a computer, I hook that up to view the recordings. It is a stand alone network, not even internet.
