DAP-1522 with DIR-655
« on: July 06, 2009, 11:36:56 AM »

Hi, could do with some help/advice

Problem

When trying to use my DAP-1522 as a bridge for my BluRay/TV to my wireless network (DIR-655), I get a whole bunch of IP address conflicts, IP Pool being consumed (no MAC assigned to consumed address) and my machines on the 655 get limited or no connectivity. Bit of the random DNS issues as well.

Setup

DIR-655 with 1.31 connected to a Time Warner Cable connection, Xbox & 2 PC's wired into the 655, 1522 with 1.20 connected as Bridge with Samsung BD Player and TV wired to it.

Present scenario, shut down bridge and so far things connected to 655 are working.

How big is your DHCP pool? and are all the devices on your network set to DHCP? or do you have any that have static IP's? Thats the only reason I can think you might be having conflicts. Also, try using DHCP reservation. Connect one device at a time and reserve the IP's this way the devices will always pull the same IP.

So my DHCP Pool was 49, I only have about 10 devices on my Network, no static IP's.

Take a look at this article https://puck.nether.net/pipermail/cisco-nsp/2007-February/038479.html I think something similar was happening, my one Vista box was continuously trying to get a new address and kicking error while the dlink was not releasing the address.

My question is what is it specific to the bridge that cause this to occur? and does the bridge try to do anything on it's own with DHCP?

Well it depends.. how do you have the bridge set up? Is the DAP-1522 switch in bridge mode? Have you configured the bridge to connect to your router?

I find the easiest way is by using the WPS button on the router and bridge.

can you ping both router and bridge?

So the bridge was set up in bridge mode (from switch), I did use the button.

So recap, it worked in bridge mode, I got my Samsung BD player to coonect to Netflix via the bridge and watched movies.

The problem is the computers and other devices connected to the 655 started giving errors, the pool ran out, dropped connections, conflicts ... all that went away when I unplugged the bridge?

ideas?

Try upgrading to the 1.32

http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=6356.0

backup your config, download the firmware, reset the router to factory default then upgrade the firmware

Had the same problem with bridge 1522 to 655. Once I removed the ehternet cable connecting the two and used the wifi to connect them the conflict problem as well as no internet problem went away.

You may want to try that.

Welder, I've never connected the 1522 to 655 via wire.

I upgraded the 655 to 1.32 and same issue again, within a few minutes of the bridge coming up (and the devices on bridge working, I start getting IP address conflicts on devices connected to the 655? ALL devices start dropping connections or losing internet.

Shut the bridge down and reboot everything, all is well again.

All I want is to connect the wired clients on the 1522 back to the wireless, not so complicated, does anyone actually have this working?
